Jews Stoned By Muslims at Temple Site in Jerusalem

King Solomon (961 BCE- 920 BCE) built our first Temple.  It was built as a shrine for the Ark of the Covenant, the sacred vessels and offerings, with a court for worshipers which was destroyed.   It had consisted of a hall, shrine and the inner sanctum, which was the "holy of holies."  The holy of holies is not mentioned in the Koran but is mentioned many times in the Torah.  For that matter, this very mosque is not mentioned  in the Koran either; only the "farthest mosque".

The holy of holies, called "devir" in Hebrew was where the ark was kept.  It had a raised floor and was windowless.  The ark  was a chest in which the 2 Tablets of the Law were kept, made of acacia wood inlaid and covered with gold.  It was held as being so sacred that even the high priest could see it only once a year on Yom Kipper, the holy day of atonement.  "When the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur, he prayed for the peace of the People of Israel and the entire world." .  From the time of Moses to the Temple, the ark was taken out from the Holy of Holies also  in case of national need to lead the people on their journey and help them in battle.   Legend is that Josiah hid it when the Israelites were attacked by Babylon.   The Temple was destroyed completely by Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylon king  in 586 BCE.  

 Our 2nd Temple was rebuilt on Mt. Moriah in Jerusalem in 538-515 BCE and destroyed in 70 CE by the Romans .  Surrounding the Temple was the Western Wall, also called the Wailing Wall.  Today, part of the wall still stands in Jerusalem and it is a site where Jews go to pray.  The custom is to put slips of papers with one's prayer in between the stones of the wall.
                                                                            

The Mosque of Omar (3rd holy Muslim site) stands over the site of the Temple Mount, built after 70 CE in the Moslem Period.  It is also called the Dome of the Rock.  It was built in the center of the Temple area (al-Harim ash-Sherif_ in Jerusalem by Caliph Abd al-Malik in about 738 CE to replace the temporary structure set up by Caliph Omar a century earlier.  It is situated on the traditional site of Mt. Moshe Dayan was very careful to allow Muslims the rights to the Mosque. Today the Waqf-the Islamic Religious Authority, with the agreement and cooperation of the Israeli government administer this site.   Extremist Muslims have been stopping Jews from accessing this holiest of Jewish sites in Israel.  Jews are met with attacks who try to get close to the former Temple. Jews are not the only ones wanting to visit.  Most all Christians also expect to visit this site as well.

The site was open from 11am and would reopen from 1:00pm to 2:30pm in the afternoon.  However, 30 teen-aged Arab rioters gathered around 10:30 am Sunday morning and started throwing rocks at the groups of  Jews who were touring the Temple Mount.  This day happened to be the end of the holiday of Passover.

 The Jewish group was escorted by the police as called for.  6 rioters were arrested.  There are many Jewish laws connected with how one goes up to and walks the grounds of the Temple Mount.  Because the exact location of the "holy of holies" is not known today, great care must be taken by educated, observant Jews who visit the area.

This was a serious attack during such an important religious holiday.  But this isn't the first, just one of many attacks.  On March 8th, 100 masked extremists attacked security forces by throwing rocks.  This was a Friday and it happened right after the end of Muslim prayers in the mosque.  They then threw petrol bombs at the police who had to fire back with stun guns.  Muslim women blocked the Jews.  Those injured by rocks had to be taken to the hospital.

This is Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.  Why is it that the Muslims cannot tolerate Jews who have legal rights to walk near the mosque at certain designated times as agreed with their waqf?  After all, it was the most sacred Jewish site, The Temple, in the first place.  Understanding, sensitivity that Moshe Dayan displayed is not to be given in return to the Jews?  This is deplorable for any religion.  With such a chip on their shoulder now, what would life be like with a Palestine next door as a neighbor?

Gaza's Reminder to Obama of Their Presence: Two Qassam Rockets on Sderot

On Obama's 2nd day of visiting Israel, at 7:15 am in Sderot, Quassam rockets were fired from Gaza.  What a surprise for a Thursday morning to have a rocket hit your backyard.  Another fell into an open area and about 3 others must have fallen into their own Palestinian territory.  First off, the air raid sirens went off 5 times.  .

This is certainly a break in the quiet enjoyed by the Israelis in southern Israel lately.   It's not a very nice thing to happen just before Passover.

Obama is talking to Assad who isn't all that popular in Gaza.  Could it be a message for Obama as well?

Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem

Another title for The Dome of the Rock is “The Mosque of Omar.  It is today a Moslem mosque built in the center of the  Jewish Temple area (al-Harim ash-Sherif) in Jerusalem by Caliph Abd al-Malik in about 738 CE to replace the temporary structure set up by Caliph Omar 100 years earlier.  It is situated on the traditional site of Mt. Moriah.

This is the site said to be the place where Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac but was stopped by G-d.  It turned out to be a test to see how far he would go to obey G-d.  It also turned out to be a lesson that he and his followers were not to sacrifice children anymore.  For that is what the Canaanites were used to doing along with the Phoenicians.  The Muslims have another story in that it was Ishmael and not Isaac that was placed on the altar.  They have a big holiday to commemorate this event.

Omar was a 2nd caliph who ruled from 634-644 CE.  He conquered Palestine, Syria and Mesopotamia.  On his orders, most Jews were expelled from N. Arabia.  He is the one who made Jews into dhimmis or 2nd class citizens by having certain restrictions places on Jews.  They were excluded from public office, had to wear distinctive clothing marking them Jewish, could not built any new synagogues and other unpleasantries.  .

The Jewish Temple was first built by King Solomon of Israel who lived from 961 to 920 BCE and was the shrine to house the Ark, the sacred vessels and offerings and had a court for worshippers.  It consisted of a hall, shrine and inner sanctum (holy of holies).  It was completely destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon  in 586 BCE and rebuilt from 538-515 BCE.  This 2nd Temple was done in the periods of Simon the Just, Judah the Maccaabee, Simon the Hasmonean and Herod.  This was done when Cyrus  permitted Jews to return to Eretz Yisrael.

In the siege of Jerusalem during the Roman war in 70 CE, the Temple served as a center of military activity and was destroyed by the Romans then.  A Roman temple was later built on the site.  Since the Moslem Period the Mosque of Omar has stood there.

The only time Jerusalem is thought of is in chapter 17 of the Koran that tells about the white animal like a horse, Baraq, who carried Mohammad to the Masjid al Aqsa, the farthest Mosque.  It does not say this mosque was in Jerusalem.  Mohammad was born in 570 CE and died in 632 CE.   The soonest the temporary mosque  built by Omar would have been built was in 638 CE when Mohammad was already deceased.  Later, Anas ib Malik wrote a similar story in the Hadith calling the mosque Bait Maqdis and mentioned Jerusalem as to where the mosque was.  Anas would have been a little boy at the time of this flight, so was going by hearsay for this writing at a time that a mosque had been built over the Temple.

Notice the use of Jerusalem, a Jewish capital and the word Beit, Hebrew for house of.  He could have been a Jew who was converted to Islam.  Mohammad had married Safia, who was Jewish at birth.  The influence of Judaism was pretty strong for Mohammad, as he copied much of our history and then altered it to capture the interest of his own people.  He would have heard Jewish stories in the towns of Mecca and Medina as there were several Jewish tribes there that dealt with the Arabs.

Jews are not allowed to enter the Mosque.  They can give thanks to Moshe Dayan who was trying to be very Jewish and fair to the Muslims.  Jordan had to sanction anything out of the Mosque and Moshe didn't want to be like that. At the end of the 1967 War, Moshe "handed over the keys of the Temple Mount to the Waqf, the Muslim religious trust ..." The same went for the Cave of the Patriarchs.  He just hoped they wouldn't take advantage of Israel.
             
"Threatened by Arab countries, on January 5, 2012, Israeli authorities closed the Mughabri Bridge, preventing Jews and Christians from entering Temple Mount. Historically it should be noted that only under Israeli rule was the site open for everyone, Muslims, Christians and Jews. The Waqf is now attempting to deliberately destroy all archaeological evidence of Jewish claims to this site, while using terror and intimidation to impose its exclusive claim to Temple Mount."  The Temple Mount is the holiest site on earth according to Jewish tradition."  The Temple Mount means the Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall.  It is the wall that had surrounded the Temple.

SAMARIA; PAST AND PRESENT FOR JEWS; Dealing with Rock Throwing Arabs

Samaria,founded way after King Solomon had died in 920 BCE,  also called Shomron, Capital of the northern kingdom of Israel, founded in 880 BCE by King Omri (887-876 BCE) on a hill bought from Shemer.  It's cited in I Kings 16:24)  It fell in 721 BCE to Sargon II of Assyria.  He brought in another population while taking ours away.  It is where the ancient Jewish tribes of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and part of Menasseh lived, Judah being the largest of the 12 tribes.  It is the very heartland of our ancient Eretz Yisrael (Israel).  Leave it to the British who held the mandate after WWI.  They did not know enough to include this territory into the National Jewish Homeland possibly because our friend, Emir Feisal, wanted to create Transjordan at the same time.  He was friendly with us as long as he got his fair share of land for having fought with the British against the Ottoman Empire.  But what a piece!  Our heartland!

"The world declares that the Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria are illegal and must be destroyed and the Jews relocated. They base their claim on either the Geneva Convention, UN General Assembly Resolution 181, UN Security Council Resolution 242, or any number of other documents. The facts, however, prove otherwise. The Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria are, in fact, quite legal, under the provisions set forth in the previously mentioned documents and others, including the Balfour Declaration and the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine."

Are we Jews in Samaria illegally?  We think not.  "According to Eugene Rostow, a former Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs in the Johnson Administration, Resolution 242  gives Israel a legal right to be in the West Bank. The resolution “allows Israel to administer the territories” it won in 1967 “until 'a just and lasting peace in the Middle East' is achieved,” Rostow wrote in The New Republic (10/21/91). During the debate on the resolution, he added, “speaker after speaker made it clear that Israel was not to be forced back to the 'fragile' and 'vulnerable' [1949] Armistice Demarcation Lines.”"  Rostow is not alone.  There are many international lawyers who are in agreement with him.

"Perhaps the most significant of these decisions was the San Remo Resolution of 1920, which recognized the exclusive national rights of the Jewish People to the Land of Israel on the strength of their historical connection to the territory then known as Palestine. The outcome of this resolution was the 1922 Mandate for Palestine, an historical League of Nations document that formally established the legal right for Jews to settle anywhere in western Palestine, between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. This includes  all of Judea and Samaria."

Maayana Miskin writes of an attack that happened to a Bitons, a Jewish family driving along in their car in Yakir, Samaria by rock-throwing Arabs. The town was near Ariel. Ariel  is one of 5 large cities in Samaria.  It is only 10.3 miles away from the Green Line established after the 1967 attack on Israel.  Ariel was established in 1978 and now has a population of 18,000. It is 21 miles west of the Jordan River.   "It is composed of veterans and young Israelis, English-speaking immigrants, and immigrants from the former Soviet Union with an additional influx of 10,000 students.  It is the fourth largest Jewish city in the West Bank,  Yakir is a town with 260 families and the population is about 1,300. It was developed in 1981 and is an Orthodox Jewish community about 35 km (21 miles)  east of Tel Aviv.    Their two-year-old girl was critically wounded in a rock attack  on Thursday night and remains in extremely serious condition.

The girl, Adelle Biton, was in a car along with her mother and two older sisters, 6-year-old Naama and 4-year-old Avigail.  Adelle was most seriously hurt. Her mother suffered moderate-to-serious injuries and the two  girls are in moderate condition.All four were wounded when Arab men hurled rocks at a truck traveling the opposite direction, causing it to veer off course and hit their car.

“The two-year-old toddler is in critical condition,” a doctor at Beilinson hospital said. “We aren’t giving up, we’re doing everything we can to save her. We’re optimistic.”

Just minutes before the attack in which the family was injured, terrorists carried out a similar attack targeting a car driven by a man from Eli. That attack wounded a one-year-old baby boy. The child suffered light injuries and is expected to recover.

A former MK’s wife was hurt in a third rock attack Thursday. Aviva Hazan, who lives in Ariel, was hit in the eye by broken glass when terrorists hurled stones at a bus headed for Tel Aviv, breaking its windows.
The attacks Thursday led to renewed calls for the army to take rock attacks seriously and to change the rules of engagement to encourage soldiers to fire on rock-throwers. The IDF has since arrested 10 suspects in one of the attacks.

By 1973 almost a million Arabs lived in the administered area.  640,600 of them lived in both Judea and Samaria which is 5,900 sq km or 2,270 sq miles.  The population of the areas was predominantly Moslem.  It was also called the West Bank of the Jordan, now spoken of as "West Bank" incorrectly.  Between 1948 and 1967 it was ruled by Jordan, which annexed it in 1950.  By 67 it was under Israel's administration.

Israel administered Judea-Samaria and local affairs were administered by the local population.  Open bridges on the Jordan allowed movement in either direction between the areas and the Arab States.  Arabs and Israelis, who until 1967 had lived in mutual separation and estrangement, began after 1967 to enjoy the beginnings of a peaceful and fruitful co-existence.  The hope was that this would contribute towards a transformation of Arab-Israeli relations from conflict into cooperation.

As of February 14, 2013 the Jewish population numbers 360,000 of both Judea and Samaria.  It has had its problems.    Arab leaders, Fatah and Hamas have had other ideas. They want Judea, Samaria, Gaza and East Jerusalem as their Palestine and it is to be Judenrein, free of all Jews.  They want all Jews to move out.  Yet, at the same time, Fatah is broke.  They do not have money on their own but must depend on the other Arab states to give them money.  At the same time they teach their population through schools and TV programs to hate the Israelis.  This rock throwing is a good example of the ethics they are learning.

 The rock throwers show their true goals of not accepting Israelis. However,  " Miri Maoz-Ovadia, spokesperson for the Binyamin Council, the largest council in Judea and Samaria, told Tazpit News Agency that the increase in the Jewish population growth rate is evidence of the prosperity of the region. “This prosperity has been supported by a development of joint industrial areas, shopping centers  open to all populations and an increase of tourism throughout the region. We hope that the development continues for the benefit of all residents living in Judea & Samaria.”"  Today's presence of an Arab population in Samaria should not in any way detract from the time-honored Jewish rights to this land.

Farming in Land of Judea-Samaria (West Bank) and Gaza Strip Use by 1973

At the end of the Six Day War of June 1967 when all the Arab countries attacked Israel, Israel won, not only the war but was able to take over Judea and Samaria as well as East Jerusalem and Gaza.  

By September 1967 in Judaea and Samaria, over 40% of households-half of the total population-were registered as farmers.  This was an average of 30,000 men and 13,000 women, which was 39% of the region's working total.  Field crops filled 51% of all the tilled land with orchards more than 33%, vegetables about 6% and the rest was fallow.  The land under cultivation was 517,000 acres with only 4% of it irrigated.

In March 1971, Israel's Ministry of Agriculture, with their staff of 28 Israelis and 314 local employees, had a program to enhance yields, improve strains and acclimatize varieties that demanded much labor.  They worked to expand their export crops, especially in the Jordan Valley and to increase mechanization and encourage efficiency planning and instruction.

Yields of irrigated crops improved from 50% to 100%.  In the 1969/70 season, 1,000 tons of vegetables were exported.  Tobacco, babung, sesame and such industrial crops as cotton and sugar beets are now grown as well as new strains of wheat.  There is much more effective prevention of livestock ailments; cattle TB and foot and mouth disease especially.

Farmers can borrow money from the Ministry at low interest.  In 1970/71, 70,000 farmers took part in study days, demonstrations and tours.  The value of agricultural output went up from IL 135.0 million in 1967/68 to IL 227.4 million in 1970/71.  Farming income-output minus purchased input, rose from IL 113.6 million to IL 192.1 million or about 27% of the GNP.

The Gaza Strip and Northern Sinai had 50,000 acres cultivated in 1969/70 with 40% irrigated.  14% of all households were working the land, which meant 17,000 men and women or more than 1/3 of all the employed in the area.  Orchards occupied 30,000 acres.  vegetables, field crops and marrow-melon varieties were growing on the rest of the land.  Citrus was the main crop which covered 16,500 acres.  Over 6 million cases were shipped to regular markets or through the Israel Citrus Marketing Board.  3 packing plants were established; of which one was by an Israeli investor and the others by local growers.  They were expected to meet regional needs for a number of years.

The staff for this area was made up 11 Israelis and 171 local employees.  They did all they could to increase and improve crops.  Farmers were taken on tours of Israel, attended study days and visited experimental stations.  Israeli lecturers and instructors were tutored for work in the region.  They were able to see demonstration farms and 400 demonstration plots supplied seedlings and better seeds and gave practical lessons in advanced methods of production and agro-technics.  The Military Government lent many millions of pounds to hundreds of farmers.

Agricultural output went up from IL 53 million in 1967/68 to IL 106.5 million in 1970/71, and farming income rose from IL 36.3 million to IL 72.4 million.

Israel, however, was referred to as "Occupiers" by the outside world.  They must be the first occupiers in the world to try to help benefit people to learn to make a better living and learn a trade.  Israel was helping them, not harming them.  

The response was that Hamas took over Gaza forcing every single Jew out on the promise of peace for all with the result of constant shelling of rockets, missiles and mortars onto Southern Israel.  So much for farming and earning a living and feeling responsible for one's own family.

Israeli Talks Centered in Istanbul

Turkey's Prime Minister, Tayyip Erdogan outraged most of the Western world by calling Zionism a "crime against humanity" at the UN.  At that moment Israeli and Palestinian Authority lawmakers were meeting with each other in Istanbul trying to re-start the peace process.  From being a friend to Israel a few years ago, he has moved towards the Muslim Brotherhood ideals.

On Friday John Kerry, the new US Secretary of State, arrived in Turkey to talk with Erdogan which included some of his strong language.  "At a press appearance in Ankara, Kerry condemned Erdogan’s comparison saying, "We not only disagree with it, we found it objectionable."

I've read an essay from a Turkish newscaster who is as loving and sweet as any young women in my own family.  She tries to answer about the antagonistic stance against Israel that her country has been displaying.  She feels there is a strong bond between the Turkish and Israeli public and hopes that the tension of the last few years is only temporary.  Most of the problem lies with the Mavi Marmara episode when this Turkish ship tried to break the blockade with this ship.  I wish she were president, as she stated that "as the Turkish nation, we want nothing more than the continuance of Israel's existence in peace and tranquility."  Perhaps that's why these meetings took place in Ankara.

Also meeting in Istanbul to discuss Obama's visit was labor MK Yitzchak Herzog. Yitzchak is the son of former president Chaim Herzog and is with the Labor party.  Netanyahu is with Likud.   He was there to speak with PA former official,  Yasser Abed Rabbo.  Neither man is a high official, so possibly took their own initiative to meet together.  Herzog was taped on Israel's Channel 10 News saying that he believes "that there is a chance for peace with their neighbors and we must not give up on it, not even for a moment.  Rabbo was a supporter of the Oslo Accords.  Yet he was promoting the false accusation that Israel had dug mass graves for 900 PA Arabs in Jenin.  He has since been removed from his post as a minister when Mahmoud Abbas took over.  Now he's just an adviser without a title.

If he's so for peace, it's crazy that Rabbo  would be so gullible as to even believe in such a terrible lie.   It's frightening how the Arabs can swallow such lies about Jews, even the intelligent ones in the seat of power. It gets back to the fact that what people would do themselves to others, they think that these others would do to them. It's  sort of like the Golden Rule.  It was not inconceivable to do this to Jews, evidently.  Our beliefs and mores are very foreign to Muslims except for the belief in one G-d. The problem lies on what that one G-d teaches the people involved.    For us to act so differently, the lessons are not understood in the same way.  Evidently this is also true with Christians who even interpret the very same doctrine otherwise.

I suggest that our government get busy and read many books on the subject of the Middle East.  I just read where Kerry read his first book about Islam which was from a very positive and flattering viewpoint.  Now he would be interested in studying about religions if he were not Secretary of State.   He should also read one I've started to read, "The Strong Horse" by Lee Smith.  It's full of insights about the Middle Eastern countries and what they admire in a culture and how they see themselves acting in it.  He's lived in the Middle East and even met Omar Sharif, the Egyptian who played the Jewish gambler, Nick Arnstein in Funny Girl, Barbra Streisand's great love. "His decision to work with co-star Barbra Streisand angered Egypt's government at the time due to Streisand's support for the state of Israel.  She happens to be Jewish. . Streisand herself responded with "You think Cairo was upset? You should've seen the letter I got from my Aunt Rose!" Sharif reprised the role in the film’s sequel, Funny Lady in 1975."  

The culture is so different from our Western culture and it's a challenge to understand this great difference.  According to Smith, Israel is not the big problem of the Islamic countries.  I hope all the talks go on well, just like talks between Barbra  and Omar  did when they worked together.  Oh, those love scenes!  .

Kings Abdullah I and II and Connections with Their Neighbor, Israel

King Abdullah II of Jordan has been together about 4 times in the past 5 years with Prime Minister  Netanyahu of Israel with much to discuss.  They met just last week to talk about peace negotiations and the Civil War in Syria.  They were also very concerned about the chemical weapons Syria might be using soon.  This was the 2nd visit they had together in the past two months.

On May 14, 2009 they were together at the Royal Palace at Port City of Aqaba to meet and talk.  They renewed their meeting in 2010.  Netanyahu didn't extend the 10 month constuction freeze they had in the West Bank as nothing helped matters with the Palestinian Arabs.

 Golda Meir had a perilous secret meeting with King Abdullah I of Transjordan, just before the Arab invasion which was a dramatic attempt for last minute conciliation.  It was on May 10, 1948, four days before the official establishment of the state, Meir traveled to Amman disguised as an Arab woman for a secret meeting with King Abdullah  at which she urged him not to join the other Arab countries in attacking the Jews. In 1970, Israel helped Jordan by stopping the Syrians from making a move on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at a time when the USA was involved with Vietnam  and couldn't commit troops to protect Jordan, an Arab ally.

Jordan was the 2nd country to sign a peace treaty with Israel on October 26, 1994.  Jordanians had been entering Israel and working, then going back home to Jordan.

King Abdullah II is of the Hashemite Kingdom, a direct descendant of Muhammed through his daughter, Fatima and her husband Ali bin Abi Talib's elder son Hasan.  Ali ibn Abi Talib was also the Prophet's paternal first cousin and the 4th caliph of Islam.  Ali and Fatima had 2 sons:  Al-Hassan and Al-Hussesin.  The direct descendants of their eldest son, Hassan, are known as "Sharifs" (nobles), while the descendants of Hussein are called "Sayyids." (lords.).  The royal family of Jordan, the Hashemites, is descended through the Sharifian branch of lineage.  King Abdullah II is a descendant of Hasan, not Husain.  King Abdullah II is a Sharif."

 There are over 800 million Muslims in the world with about 5,568,565 living in Jordan and about 14 million Jews of which 6 million reside in Israel.

Golan Heights Gets Hit With Second Rocket and 3 More

Three months ago the Israelis living in the Golan were hit with a mortar accidentally from Syria due to their Civil War.

They were just hit again by a 100 mm shell from the battle Syria is involved in which landed in this Golan town.  People can hear the shelling in Syria from here, but recently they say it had been quiet.  The silence was broken by the whistling of incoming fire.  Luckily it didn't explode.

Update: 3/2/13 Three more mortars exploded in the Golan Saturday afternoon.  They all seem to be strays from the fighting below in Syria.  No one was injured.

From Riots to Rockets: Ashkelon Hit

Ashkelon, Portland's sister city, was just hit Tuesday morning from Gaza by an improved  Grad rocket breaking  silence since November.  It was from al-Aqsa Maryrs Brigade who are connected to Fatah in Judea-Samaria (West Bank), supposedly the moderate ones.

Why?  It was instigated by leaflets sent out urging harsh reprisals for Arafat Jaradat, the Israeli prisoner who died suddenly while incarcerated.  An autopsy showed heart attack, and bruises on the body were from trying to recusitate him, said the Israeli doctors whom the Palestinians will not accept.  Israel has now asked the international community's doctors to review their autopsy records on this man.  He has been buried already.  The UN is also probing the incident.

In a group such as this, where Palestinian mothers offer their children's life in any act that will harm Israel, and with Israeli's who's main word is L'Chaim (to life), who do everything to save lives, whose country is made up of bomb shelters, one can only expect that the autopsy report will be the final answer.  In the meantime, the Palestinians are making as much out of this episode as they can.  Their main goal is to do anything to bring down Israel.

Clashes in West Bank (Judea-Samaria)

Does anyone realize that the West Bank (Judea-Samaria) happens to be the very land that was ancient Israel?  King David, of the tribe of Judah,  had ruled over Israel with Jerusalem as his capital in about 1,000 BCE.  It split into 2 kingdoms with Judah keeping the Davidic dynasty and Jerusalem while Israel made Samaria its capital.  This "West Bank" was to be part of the Jewish Homeland in the original plans with Britain who held the mandate. Jordan had illegally grabbed the area in 1948 as it lies next to his state, allowed or encouraged Palestinians to live there, and it didn't come under Israel's domain until 1967.   Now, the land is designated to become "Palestine" when the conditions become peaceful.  The catch is that Abbas and his crew plan to have it devoid of Jews, just like the Nazi plan of Judenrein.  Israel contains 1.4 million Arabs but the Arabs' state is to have zero Jews.

350,150 Jewish Israelis now lived in this area as it holds so many places and feelings for Jews. 300,000 Jews also live in East Jerusalem, which is also counted as part of the "West Bank."   Palestinian Arabs also live here. Area C of the West Bank is 70% Jewish.   Now that Gaza has quieted down, clashes are happening in many cities.  There are 4 Palestinian prisoners who decided to go on a hunger strike, and all belong to terrorist groups and are dangerous.  For some reason, the Arab population in the West Bank have suddenly started rioting, demanding they be released.

Now, another new prisoner, Arafat Jaradat, 30 years old, arrested for throwing rocks at Jews in Judea, was found dead in his cell and the crowd's immediate conclusion was that he had been tortured to death.    Israeli officials deny this and said that bruises on his body were from resuscitation.  They thought he had died from a heart attack.  An autopsy was done Sunday which was observed by a Palestinian doctor who was the Palestinian Prisoners Minister Issa Qaraqi.  He saw bruises on the chest, back, arms and mouth.  His conclusion was torture during interrogation causing psychological shock leading to immediate death.  Now Palestinians are calling for an international inquiry of the jails and how Jaradat died.  Israel is saying they need the results of a toxicology and other tests are completed and that torture didn't happen.    His body was returned to the family for burial today.

Before this unfortunate event happened, clashes were going on in Hebron, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jenin and at checkpoints in East Jerusalem and south of Nablus. between IDF and young Palestinians.  With so many clashes going on at the same time, I feel they  had been purposely organized.  President Obama is due to arrive in Israel on March 20th, so somebody is stirring up trouble here.

Palestinians threw rocks and Molotov cocktails against Israeli soldiers who used tear gas and rubber bullets. The outcome was 4 protesters that were seriously wounded, report  the Palestinians.

Torture seems to be a world cry right now.  President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan is charging the USA that they are torturing and murdering innocent people and ordered all US special operations forces to leave a province in 2 weeks.  This results in  calling in NATO airstrikes in populated areas citing civilian casualties.  We're supposed to be out of there by 2014.  In the meantime, Taliban suicide bombers targeted Afghan security forces in 3 different attacks on Sunday with the results of 4 Afghan security men and one civilian killed.  Karzai is pinpointing US special forces in Wardak for harassing, annoying, torturing and murdering innocents.

Israeli Jails Only Hold Palestinians With a Good Reason

The 4 Palestinians on a hunger strike while being held in Israeli jails are there for good reason.  At the end of 2012, there were about 4,500 Palestinians in Israeli jails and prisons.  Palestinians in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem have been rioting in protest of their incarceration.  It has to be an organized act by the terrorist organizations.

1. Samer Issawi, fasting the longest, is there on a 26 year sentence from 2002 for attempted  murder and other terrorist crimes.  He was once released in the Gilad Shalit kidnapping on June 25, 2006,  but continued terrorism being a part of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine.  He could be released in March.   He comes from a family of terrorists.

2. Eman Ismail Salame Sharouna, Hamas member arrested in 2002 for multiple terrorist attacks such as bombing in Be'er Sheva which wounded 18 people, kidnap attempt of IDF soldier, shooting attacks at soldiers.   with 38 year sentence, released in Shalit kidnapping in November 2011, returning to Hamas terrorist activities, rearrested January 2012. Gilad Shalit wasn't released until October 18, 2011 in a prisoner exchange swap.  He had been held for over 5 years.

Perhaps it is Obama's upcoming visit to Israel on March 20-22nd, but Palestinian Arabs staged protests with the IDF at flashpoints in Jerusalem and across the West Bank on Friday, February 22nd.  They have been demonstrating for the past week in support of these 4 who have extended their hunger striking against their incarceration. The first two on the list are repeat terrorist offenders.    Two of the men are being held without trial and two were re-arrested after being released in a prisoner exchange in 2011.

Islamic Jihad terrorists are known to be very dangerous.  They are responsible for suicide bombings and other attacks.  Recently some from the Jenin area were caught trying to kidnap an Israeli citizen.

The Israeli police had to enter the compound of the al-Aqsa mosque  (Temple Mount) in Jerusalem and use stun grenades to disperse the protesters who threw stones at the police after their Friday prayers.  Friday is the Shabbat for Muslims.  "Israel had previously tried to prevent hunger strikes by coming to an agreement with the prisoners and the current hunger strikes are a violation of that agreement."  The thing is, it makes good propaganda against Israel by appearing in newspapers such as the Oregonian.

A 30 year old Palestinian from Hebron, Arafat Jaradat,  was just arrested a few days ago and died during questioning of a heart attack according to Saudi Arabia's  newspaper, Al Arabiya News. They also reported that about 100 were wounded in clashes in Judea-Samaria over the fasting prisoners of which 2 were shot by civilians, since the IDF were not using live ammunition.   Protests anywhere tend to become violent.  In this situation there were 200 Arab protesters against 25 Jewish people.

It could be anyone of the terrorist organization that organized the protests.  If so, they have just led to the harm of their own people.  All 4  men are terrorists and deserve to be locked up.

Surrounding Arab States, Not Native Arabs Incensed Over Israel's Creation

On the eve of the establishment of Israel, May 14, 1948, a war broke out when the Arab states and the Arab Higher Committee rejected the United Nation's Partition Plan, Resolution 181 ( November 29, 1947) of the General Assembly.  These Arab states threatened to use force to prevent the implementation of the resolution and did.  Israel's War of Independence was the first of many between the State of Israel and her neighboring Arab countries. Israel found themselves up against 5  regular Arab armies;  Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Iraq.   On the 13th of May there were still 100,000 British troops stationed in Palestine but their policy was not to intervene except to keep the British forces safe.

 The native Arabs living in Palestine were being manipulated by their brethren just like pawns in a chess game.   This was the first offering by the Jews through the United Nations of two states, Jewish and Muslim and it was refused.  The plan was taking place on land originally decided and stipulated by the League of Nations to be the Jewish National Homeland.  The new offer was a disappointment to the Zionist leaders as well, but they were desperate to have their own state, and something was better than nothing.  This first war lasted until January 5,1949.  It was 7 months of intense fighting with a few  truces, one of which was 28 days from June 10th to July 18th 1948.

By the time it stopped, Israel had 6,373 deaths including about 4,000 soldiers.  That was almost 1% of the total population of 650,000.  (Moses had taken 600,000 Israelites out of Egypt.) The Arabs suffered 2,000 the death of about 2,000 regular invading troops and  and unknown number of irregular Palestinian forces.  They never agreed to a truce and continued harassing against Jewish forces and villages in the north.  It was Egypt who had agreed on January 5, 1949, to negotiate for an armistice which the UN demanded on November 16, 1948.  Jamal Abdel Nasser was in an Egyptian brigade that was cut off in a small pocket around Falouja.

Israel had been able to reopen the road to the south and capture Be'er-Sheva on October 21.  Egyptian forces had been cut off from their bases.  Israel had an army of 100,000 troops, which was awesome considering they had 600,373 people, many of which had just come out of the holocaust.

The Jewish section of my old city of Safed in the Galilee, had been under siege.  Jews had continually lived there as had Jews in Jerusalem.  The Hagana managed to briefly reopen the road to Jerusalem and its Jewish section, captured all of Tiberias below Safed, Haifa and other places.  British intervention,  which wasn't to be allowed by their own rules, prevented the conquest of Jaffa.  The city later surrendered in May.  This is a good example of the fact that Britain was given the mandate "job" of carrying out the wishes of the League of Nations to establish the Jewish National Home and worked against it.

The Syrian army had captured Masada,  originally Herod the Great's Palace and fortress,  the site now used to induct Israel's soldiers into the IDF.  It is on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea.   This was where the last stand took place in 73 CE against the Romans where the Jews, on top of a high mountain had taken refuge.  Instead of allowing the Romans to rush and kill them all unmercifully, they decided on a mass suicide.  When the Romans entered, they found all 960 people were dead.

An interesting aspect of this is that the Druze, a light-skinned people with their own religion, a form is Islam which the Muslims sneer that they are idolaters, had started to fight with the Muslims and then switched and fought with the Israelis.  Today they are still on Israel's side and are some of its greatest champions.  They live in their own towns and marry within themselves and are wonderful Israeli citizens.  They also serve in the IDF while Israel up to now has not asked Israeli Muslims to do, but this is on the table for change to include all Israeli citizens.

Does Iran Have The Bomb? Jews and USA's Relationship With Iran and Why Iran Is Out to Blow Them Up

Iran is displaying uncalled for hatred for Jews and Israel.  Where does this come from?  Let's look at the history of the two entities. Geneticists are finding that body cells contain memory.  I wonder if the people involved are carrying an inherited memory  of their enmity for each other. Of course, oral history and written history continues their attitudes starting with parents.   

538 BCE:  CYRUS of the Babylonian Empire conquered Israel putting Jews in exile in Mesopotamia and Israel, now under Persian (Iran) rule for 200 years.  Jews were later allowed to return to Israel but it was under Persian rule as a Persian province with some local autonomy.
   The Book of Esther shows Jews living in their 127 provinces of the Persian Empire as being numerous and influential in the capital of Susa (Shushan).  Queen Esther, keeping her Judaism a secret, was married to King Ahashueros.  Haman, on the king's council as advisor,  called for death of all Jews.  Esther reveals her Jewishness and her husband turns against Haman, having him hung along with all his sons.  Esther's uncle, Mordechai,  was a descendant of King Saul, Israel's first king and from the tribe of Benjamin.  Haman, on the other hand, was a descendant of the Amalek, a tribe that was not friendly to the Israelites and tried to kill them all.

225 CE Persia under Sassanid dynasty, extending authority over ancient centers of Jewish settlement in Mesopotamia.  Sasanids were heirs of ancient Achaemanean Empire, controlled both sides of the Caspian Sea, eastern part of Fertile Crescent, land between Tigris and Indus rivers.  Zoroastrianism became their religion and language was Pahlavi, or middle Persian.  They were autocratic, and used religion as a tool of the state.  They were people very proud of their heritage.  Constantly at war with the Byzantine Empire of the West with Constantinople being the capital, who spoke Greek.  The Babylonian Talmud (Jewish) was written during this period.  Queen Shushan Dukht was Jewish.

531-571 Khosrow Anushirayan was the Shahanshah, believed in absolute power, ambitious, reformer and law giver, concluded an eternal peace with  Justinian of Byzantines which lasted less than 10 years.  Persians carried on trade with India and China.

641-642  Islam in Arab conquest, brought in more tolerant spirit with reservations.   Jews flourished under the Eastern Caliphate of Baghdad.  Controlled by the exilarchs and paid allegiance to the Gaonim.

700 :  Many sectarian movements like that of Abu Issa al-Isfahani.  Karaism developed from teacher Benjamin Nahavendi.

1100 CE Benjamin of Tudela found many Jewish communities, but some disturbed by messianic movement of David Alroy,  (1160) was a Jewish pseudo-Messiah born in Amadiya, Iraq. Though from Iraq, this affected Jews all over.   "The Jews of Persia had considerable difficulty in appeasing the wrath of the Sultan, and were obliged to pay a large indemnity."

1200-1400 CE Mongol Rule.

1499 Safavid dynasty returned giving Persian independence.  Shiite Islam became very dominant and was highly intolerant in theory and practice.  Jews treated worse than in other parts of the Moslem world.  All manner of restrictions were enforced.

1600   Widespread persecutions of Jews, forced conversions, especially in Isfahan.

1736-1747  Conditions towards Jews improved under broadminded Nadir Shah who tried to create a new religious synthesis.  He set up a Jewish community at his new capital, Meshed where they had been excluded.  When he died, Shiite intolerance became supreme again.

1839 Meshed community forcibly converted to Islam but kept secret fidelity to Judaism as Jedid al-Islam.  Persian Jewry among the most depressed of the world's Jewish communities.  Shahs gave promises of ameliorations which were overlooked.

1898 Schools of the Alliance Israelite Universelle introduced a more modern spirit.   and the Jedid al-Islamd were afraid to return openly to Judaism.  Social and economic status of Jews didn't change but political rights were introduced under the Shah.

1948  Jews began to emigrate to Israel, West.

1960-1970's Many Jews moved  from provinces to Teheran.
1963: Shah of Iran's White Revolution of modernizing Iran.

1963-1964 Khomeini exiled to Turkey for speaking out against the Shah's relationship with USA and Great Britain.

1977-1979 Iran's upheaval forcing shah out of the country, established Ayatolah Ruhollah Khomayni.  Reign of terror followed the Islamic Revolution, trials, executions of hundreds of political and military leaders.

1978  Khomeini Revolution, Jews felt uncomfortable under strict Islamic regime and emigrated for Israel and West.  Population went from 80,000 to 20,000 in 1989.  Khomeini brought in Islamic Republic.  

1979 June 16:  Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (October 26, 1919-July 27, 1980) , who was supported and installed by the USA and Great Britain on September 16, 1941 at the start of WWII,   went into exile.  .  Two weeks later, Ayatollah Khomeini returned to Tehran to a greeting by several million Iranians.

1980, September 20-- 1988, August 20:  Iraq-Iran War (1st Persian Gulf War) :  Iraq crossed Iranian border

1981 June 7 Israel blew up the Tammuz-I nuclear reactor in Iraq.  Saddam Husayn greatly humiliated, lost prestige.  Soviet Union had 2,200 advisers in Iraq, helped both countries.  French lent Iraq 5 jets with missiles, England traded more with Iran, USA gave $460 million for grain in 1982 to Iraq. “There is regular cooperation, since the 1980s, between North Korea and Iran. North Korea also helped set up a plutonium nuclear facility in Syria, which was bombed by Israel in 2007, according to foreign sources,” he said."

1982  Israel sold spare parts for American planes to Iran.  

1984:  500,000 military and civilian casualties for both Iran and Iraq; 3 million displaced persons, debt of over $50 billion, destruction of cities, towns, industry.

1984 July:  Iraq asking for peace but still sinking oil tankers loaded with Iranian oil and Iran prepared 500,000 soldiers for a new offensive against Basra.

2003-2013   Ayatallah Khomeini ruling religious person, Ahmadinejad President, calling for destruction of Jews.  Ayatollah "sign of G-d" is a mujtahid,  whose job is to interpret and be sources of imitation, to imitate. He gets blind obedience from imitators.  Iran is working on nuclear energy with North Korea which is felt that their goal is to build a bomb to use on Israel and the USA.

2007 September 6:  Israel blew up another nuclear facility in Syria in Operation Orchard.  "In April 2011, the IAEA officially confirmed that the site was a nuclear reactor." Nobody knew about it except Israel.  It took almost 4 years for this confirmation.

2013-February 5, 3rd Nuclear test by North Korea with Iranian observer,  Mohsen Fakhrizadeh Mahabadi, father of Iran's nuclear Fordow program. Other Iranian observers were there with him.   Iran has developed a warhead small enoough to fit ballistic missiles.  They have used North Korean prototypes.  North Korea's 3rd test was more powerful than their 2006 and 2009 tests.   "The Iranians didn’t carry out a nuclear test in Iran, but they may have done so in North Korea,” Levkowitz said. “There is no official information on this... but Iran may have bypassed inspections via North Korea. If true, this is a very worrying development.” "Dr. Alon Levkowitz, coordinator of Bar-Ilan University’s Asian Studies Program and a member of the BESA Center for Strategic Studies, told The Jerusalem Post this information.

I wouldn't be surprised if we found out that Khomeini was a descendant of the Amaleks.  Such vicious hatred boiling over must be a  reaction from his being exiled out of Iran over the USA connection. The Jews only connection in this is the friendship of USA in backing Israel plus Persia's former attitudes towards Jews.  Israel has had to destroy 2 nuclear sites already that would destroy them and the western world.  The fear now is that Iran already has the capability to bomb both Israel and the USA since this 3rd North Korean tests was a positive one.  The window of opportunity may have already shut for Israel to act.  

Maybe I'll try to rent the movie, Altered States from 1988 with William Hurt to see how they handled genetic memory.  If there's a predisposed built in attitude we all carry, it should be altered with reason, you would think.  However, here we are, Israel battling the same old adversaries.  Amazing, isn't it?

So many lies have been told about the Israel-Palestine situation that the true facts have not even reached the UN.  Many follow the path of  least expended energy to find out what the facts are.  

Jews were deprived of their homeland ever since 70 CE because of the Roman Empire invasion.  They suffered from religious persecution for 2,000 years, leading to pogroms in the 1800's in Russia and with the Dryfus Affair in France of 1894, realized they had to return to their native homeland which was up for grabs, being the Ottoman Empire lost in WWI.  The British, holding the mandate and instructed to carry out the promise of establishing the Jewish National Home, double-dealt with them, because they also  were  guilty of this religious anti-Semitism.  

Palestinian leaders have long desired money and power and care little for their people.  It was they who told their people to leave homes in Israel as they were coming to attack the fledgling country and that they'd get their homes back and more when it was over.  They've created such Arabian Nights fairy tales about their history that even they might have started believing it all.  If you believe the following, then you have been duped along with the average Palestinian.

1.  Palestinians identified with the land for over  thousands of years.  
No:   There were very few Arabs living there that were natives.  Most landowners had sold out and were living in Damascus, Paris, and other nice places.  During 19th and 20th centuries Arabs/Arabic-speakers that were migrants wandered searching for food and jobs all over the Middle East.  Palestine was wasteland and peasants had left.  Nothing was there for them.  But, there were also poor Jews who had remained in Palestine even though many left after 70 CE during the Roman conquest.  Jerusalem was still populated by Jews and remained so.

2. Jews returned after 2,000 years in 1948 to displace Arabs because of their new state of Israel.  
No:  Palestine was the former Empire of Israel,  held by the Ottoman Empire for the past 400 years and included land east and west of the Jordan River.  It originally was to be the new Israel according to the British Mandate but had then been pared down to 20% of the land.  The plan was not to displace the Arabs but to live together in harmony.

3.  But it was Arab land.  Arabs were there first.  
No:  There were few Arabs living in Palestine and they thought of themselves as Ottomans, Turks, southern Syrians, Arab people, but never as "Palestinians."  Effendis and the Mufti tried to create Nationalism in them but it didn't take.  T.E. Lawrence tried it also, and he failed as well.  It was an alien idea.  The only non-Jews that were there first were people that Joshua had conquered when the Israelites entered Canaan in about 1270 BCE, people like the Hittites.  They were all killed, but any survivors were emerged with the Israelite people.

4. Jews stole the Arab lands.
No:   After the Dryfus Affair, Jews formed groups to ask Britain about creating a Jewish National Homeland out of the land held by the Ottoman Empire who lost WWI.  It was decided affirmatively in the League of Nations.  Britain held the mandate and were told  to carry it out.  Arabs living there at the time were included in the plan of being citizens along with the Jews.

5. Jewish terrorists forced the peaceable Arabs to flee from Palestine.
No:  Arabs were fed with religious prejudice, so Muslims of Palestine erupted into anti-Jewish violence many times when Muslim leaders called for it which the British called "Nationalism."

6.  Palestine is Israel, and Israel makes up all of Palestine meaning that in 1948 Palestine became Israel.
No:  The bulk of people living in Palestine that were not Jewish were  from east Palestine, Syrian, Iraqi, Egyptian and others who were already landless because of feudal type life styles, natural disasters, over-taxation by the Ottomans and loan sharks (people who loan money).  The British gave away state domain lands already designated to be the Jewish National Home to these landless Arabs screaming that they had been displaced by Jews in western Palestine.  Israel got only 20% of land promised to become the Jewish National Home.  That 20% contained mostly all Jews to start with.

7.  Arabs were natives of the land but Jews had to immigrate into Palestine.
No:  Only a few Arabs were natives of the land.  The bulk were poor landless peasants looking for work who came from Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon and further.  Jews had always remained in Palestine and their ancestors were  there when Joshua entered Canaan.  Jews had been coming back to the land through the ages, but noticeable groups started in 1880 with the 1st Aliyah from Russia which continued to bring in Jews suffering from religious persecution.  With European immigrants and the end of the Ottoman Empire, there was opportunity in Palestine for jobs, so Arabs came.

8. There are no places for homeless Palestinian refugees to go.
No.  For 64 years, refugees have been living in refugee camps in Gaza, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria which in fact are the homelands of most of these Arabs.  .  The UN has been feeding them and supporting them, even keeping them in UN refugee jobs which enables them.  They are pawns in the fight against Jews held in this condition by their leaders.  They've been brain-washed to remain in this state.  This means 3 generations have lived this way.   Transjordan had taken land illegally meant for the Jews and it was from there that homeless people wound up in refugee camps as well.  Surrounding Muslim states refused to grant citizenship to these Arabs who had left Israel. Jordan had a war with them and did take in many but not all. King Hussein's son, Abdullah II married one.   Today Obama and Netanyahu are planning to have a summit meeting about Jordan being involved with the West Bank where Fatah's PA rules over Arab communities.

9. Jews were living in equality and tranquility with the Palestinian Arabs before Israel became a state, just like Jews had lived in peace and benevolence throughout the Arab world.
In individual cases, this was true.  My neighbor, Mimi Padrow,  told me about living in Tel Aviv where they had orange groves and that the Palestinian workers got along well with them.  But there were many times, such as from 1919- 1929 that rioting was instigated by leaders  like the Haj Amin el Husseini which led to the slaughter of Jews. From August 23 -29, 1929, there was rioting that killed 133 Jews and injured 339.   In the Arab world, all Jews were called dhimmis, 2nd class citizens and were forced to pay higher taxes, and follow regulations that others did not that were slanderous.  They were looked down on due to their Muslim teachings.    True, it was a better state than Jews living in many places in Europe experienced.

10. Arab Palestinians, like other Arabs, have nothing against Jews, only Zionism.
Hatred started with the Koran.  Mohammed tried to convert Jews but failed, and in many instances he converted by the sword and if that didn't work he killed whole Jewish communities who were living in Medina.  So we started off on the wrong foot.  Treated as dhimmis showed how they felt about Jews.  Britain abetted their anti-Jewish feelings by their unfair treatment of Jews, such as restricting their immigration at a time Hitler was about to kill the 6 million. Those Brits stationed in Palestine are guilty of treating the land to be the Jewish National Home as Arab land.  They didn't stop Arabs from entering.  They counted as refugees the itinerant workers from neighboring countries.  All the Arab leaders had to do was speak those Holy Words and tell lies about Jews and they felt hatred.  They were afraid the Jews would treat them like they had been treated as dhimmis.  Actually, Arabs were not interested in creating their own state, even though offered their own in 1948.  It wasn't until 1967 after the Six Day War that they wanted what they never developed.   Now Abbas wants his state next door to Israel but has no money.  What money they were given by other Arab states has gone into weapons to use against Israel.  He expects Israel to accept them when they do not recognize Israel after these past 64 years.

Hebron: One of 4 Sacred Jewish Cities; Part of "West Bank"

Abraham bought a plot of land from the Hittites that is about 18 miles south of Jerusalem.  Land the plot was part of was called Kiriath-Arba then, but shortly was named Hebron, which became a city of Judah.  This piece of land was the Cave of Machpelah  that he needed in which to  bury Sarah.  Today a mosque stands on the site.  Abraham turned out to be the father of all the peoples, mainly Jews and Muslims.  Abraham had entered Hebron after arriving in Canaan after leaving Ur, his family home.

Moses didn't enter the land of Canaan, but Joshua took over for him.  Joshua assigned Hebron to Caleb, and it was deemed a Levitical city for the tribe of Levites, who had been given the job of being teachers and traveling around to all the tribes teaching  without owning any land of their own.  It was also one of the 6 cities of refuge.

King David ruled there for 7 1/2 years before making Jerusalem his capital.  A Jewish community lived there throughout the Byzantine Period under Arab rule.  The modern city stands just east of the historical location.  Jews listed Hebron, Jerusalem, Tiberias and Safed as the 4 sacred Jewish towns.  Jews continued to live in Hebron.  In 1890 there were 1,500 and they had a yeshivot and religious school.  The great Lithuanian yeshivah of Slobadka was transferred there in 1925.

1929 was the year Arabs massacred many of the 700 Jews remaining there. It was also the year of the economic crash in the USA.  The survivors left.  Two years later 39 Jewish families returned.  Again the Arabs rioted in 1936 causing Jews to leave again.  Simultaneously  anti-Semitism was occurring in Germany with WWII starting in September of 1939.  The population in 1967 after the 6 Day War of Israel was 38,310.  Jews returned to Hebron and established the Kiryat Arba quarter east of the city.  In 1988 the population was 3,700.  Today there are 130,000 Arabs living in Hebron along with 530 Jews and 3 Christians.  6,000 Jews live right next to it in Kiryat Arba.

" According to the Oslo accords, the IDF has sole responsibility for the security of the Jewish community of Hebron."  "Under the Hebron Agreement, the city was divided into two areas: H-1, under full Palestinian Authority, and H-2, under full Israeli control. At the outset of the second intifada in 2000, the IDF resumed operations in the H-1 area. In 2003, the IDF began constructing two permanent fortified posts in Arab neighborhoods which overlook Jewish homes in the center of Hebron."

 IDF just had to detain a Palestinian and it made news in the paper.  That was the tip of the iceberg.  A Hamas cell was found to be plotting a center in Hebron as well as kidnapping of Israeli citizens.

Israel's Flood of Jewish Immigrants From Arab Countries

Why are there still Arab refugees in camps all over the Middle East since 1948 living on the the money from the UN?  Why haven't they become citizens of the Arab country that they came from?  It's been 64 years.

In May 1948  Israel was created through the United Nations with 650,000 people for a Jewish Homeland   It had been 2,000 years that they had gone without a homeland of their own.   Jews had been suffering from anti-Semitic activities since 70 CE through the present time with pogroms in Russia and the Holocaust that killed 6 million of them.   Jews were forced out of their Middle East homes and had to emigrate to Israel as soon as it was created.  Given a choice, they might have wanted to wait for the fighting to stop, first.

Besides fighting for their life the minute they announced the recognition of their state, they had to deal with immigration, which meant housing, feeding and clothing people coming into the country.  They received refugees from the Holocaust in Europe.  Many were the remnants of the Jewish communities in Poland, Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia.  They came on ships.

Entire Jewish communities came from Arab countries including 121,000 out of the 130,000 Jews of Iraq; 44,000 out of the 45,000 Jews of Yemen of which Ofra Haza, the singer, was one; and  30,500 out of 35,000 Jews of Libya.   Often tents had to be put up for a temporary housing.

Between 1955 and 1957 there were 165,000 Jews that came from Morocco, Tunisia, Poland and other countries.  A large number of Jews from Romania arrived in Israel under a family reunification plan.    Between 1961 and 1964 there were 215,000 Jews that came, mainly from Eastern Europe and North Africa.

Since the Six-Day War in 1967, there has been a new wave of immigration, mainly from countries in North and South America, Western Europe and the Soviet Union.  By the end of 1972, about 200,000 immigrants had arrived.  Russian immigrants were settled on the Sinai Desert and Ethiopians were settled in Safed, which was cold in the winter.  It all depended on where housing existed.

This ended the life of ancient Jewish communities of Iraq, Yemen, Egypt and Libya who all had a history of of living there for the past 2,000 years. They were the Sefardi and Mitzraim Jews.   They had lived as 2nd class citizens with rules and regulations to follow because they were Jewish.  They had been held back and came with a completely different culture from the Eastern European Ashkenazi Jews.  That was an adjustment that Jews of Israel had to make.  Altogether nearly 700,000 immigrants, almost half the total -came as destitute refugees from Moslem countries.  That number matches that of the Palestinian Arabs who became refugees in 1948.    Israel had to manage 1,400,000 immigrants over their first 24 years along with the wars of :

1. November 29, 1947- 1949:   War of Independence: Arabs responded with war to the UN resolution on Palestine and continued until the Armistice Agreement  By April 1948 the land was invaded from Syria, Lebanon and Egypt to reinforce local Arabs attacking communities and blocking main roads.  Then on May 14, 1948 Israel was invaded by the armies of Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and a Saudi-Arabian contingent.  The next day the head of the Arab League,  Azzam Pasha,  proclaimed from Cairo that "This will be a war of extermination and a momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and Crusades."  They're still in the attempt.
2. October 29 1956-November 5, 1956:   The Sinai War (Suez crisis) 
3. June 4-11, 1967:  The Six Day War
4. August 7,1968- August 7-8, 1970  The War of Attrition
5. October 6-25,  1973 The Yom Kippur War

There was an armistice and a cease fire between wars.  Even times between wars were filled with clashes along the frontier lines.  Arab terrorists, known as fidayun who were supported by Arab governments, made forays into Israel committing acts of terrorism and sabotage.

Several Eastern European countries also saw the removal of the remnant of Jews not killed in the Holocaust like Poland, Hungary and Romania where Jews had lived for centuries.  Today only a small number of Jews are there.  As a result, most Jews today live in Israel with 6 million and the United States with 6 million and 2 million more scattered through the world in places like France, England, South Africa, Canada and such.  Many from Russia were able to finally leave Russia well into the 1980's and had not been allowed to practice any religion at all.  In 1980 I was in Hebrew classes in Haifa with many Russian teachers, making up a class of 40.  I must admit that they were far more capable than I of learning a new language.

Talk about a melting pot!  This was more than the vast USA had ever thought of handling.  All these people coming in this short period of time and all speaking different languages with one common denominator, Hebrew.  The problem was that they all used it in synagogue services but not for daily communication.  Ulpans had to be set up where they went to school and learned to speak Hebrew.  Immigrants keep coming in.  Wars keep rising.  Remnants of the 10 Lost Tribes of Israel are reuniting and coming to Israel.

My 2nd cousin, Stanley Goldfoot, graduated from a high school Yeshiva in Johannesburg, South Africa and boarded a ship in 1933 at age 18 for "Palestine."  In the middle of the ocean a swastika flag went up, and he didn't know if he'd make it or not.  When he did, he was greeted by members of the Stern Group just like in the movie, "Exodus" starring Paul Newman, Eva Marie Saint and Sal Mineo.  I believe Sal was playing the part of a Stern Group member. The only difference was that Stanley was very tall and Sal was short.    He was immediately indoctrinated and given work to do.  He became a news reporter, as he had a gift of writing, and  somehow wound up in prison in Acco, having been arrested by the British.  Stanley wound up finally living in Jerusalem and was one of the fighters for Israel, having served as the group's Chief of Intelligence.

Israel Hit Convoy of Missiles Headed for Shelling Israel

NBC TV news just reported that Israel's jets almost flew as far as Damascus today and bombed a convoy of huge missiles waiting to be used against Israel.  They may have even carried chemicals in the nose.  The missiles were shown on the report.  To my eyes they were huge.

Israel National News reported that the Syrian army has accused Israel of launching a dawn strike with fighter jets  and hitting a military research centre in Jamraya, near Damascus.   This center, they said, is in charge of raising their level of resistance and self-defense.  That's jibberish for the missiles that Iran wants aimed at and used against Israel by Hizbollah..

Evidently they are saying that Israel had damaged the building when we know it was the whole convoy of missiles.  They are denying the reports that the convoy was from  near the border with Lebanon.   The USA is not commenting, either.  Israel's military intelligence chief is Aviv Kochave who is in Washington to talk with General Martin Dempsey.   Jay Carney from the White House is passing any questions and giving them to Israel.  Reports earlier said the convoy was carrying Russian-made anti-aircraft missiles.  That could be, but they come from Iran.

A report that has come in from last Friday, the day of Israel's elections, was that Fordow, the atomic plant in Iran, had had an explosion.  Iran has been denying that also.  Israel has been announcing this event.  Afterwards, "A request was made to [Hezbollah chief Hassan] Nasrallah to vacate southern Lebanese villages.

Islamic Republic Guards are on their way there. A decision has been made to prepare for missile launch from a certain area in Lebanon against Israel,” he said."  I believe this has been what's been going on. The convoy went  from Lebanon to Syria.  

Whatever caused the Fordow explosion is not known.  Everyone except Israel has been denying the event.  Whoever or whatever the cause is, is a blessing as it must set back Iran's plans to make an A bomb to use against Israel.  We just had a 3.7 earthquake where I live.  It could even have been an earthquake way under the mountain where Fordow is.  We'll never know.  The story is that the elevator and stairs are in shambles and that several hundred people are trapped inside.  Smoke has been seen coming from the area.

Two Palestinian States? Oy!

It looks like Khaled Mashaal of Hamas and Mahmoud Abba of Fatah, both Palestinian terrorist leaders, fight each other as much as they both do with Israel.  They've had an on and off love affair with each other, but right now it must be divorce time as Jordan and Qatar's leaders are pushing  for Mashaal to be chair over a future PLO  while Abbas still has his sights set on this role of being their next president or prime minister.  Abbas is the present PA chairman.

They can't come to any agreements, but the governments of the world  expect Netanyahu to pull out miracles and get both in agreement with him.  It's almost hilarious.

Hamas is in Gaza on the west side of Israel and Judea-Samaria is in what they call the West Bank, which is on the eastern side of Israel but west of the Jordan River.  Hamas has their charter which is almost the same as the Muslim Brotherhood in which they both have the goal of destroying Israel.  The Palestinians still are sniping at Israeli citizens when they can, which was today when a Palestinian from Judea stabbed a 17 year old Jewish teenager for nationalistic reasons at Tapuah Junction, he said.  .

Ten years ago Mashaal and other Hamas leaders were expelled from Jordan and lost their citizenship there for acts unbecoming a citizen, so King Abdullah certainly doesn't want them back, but instead has been restoring relations by allowing visits.  This is because of the Hamas promise of refraining from meddling in the King's internal affairs.

Now the King of Jordan has been living peacefully since 1972's war with Israel in which Arabs lost.    He's saying that he thinks Hamas is ready to soften their position and live peacefully next to Israel!  They're becoming a little more realistic.  Yahya Moussa al-Ebadsh of Hamas  had a come-back with a statement on their website saying that their relationship with Israel would not change.  "The only relationship with this enemy is the resistance,"  he vowed.

Religion should be used as a prescription for getting along peacefully with one's neighbors, but Hamas is using their religion as a dictum for war and death.  How can John Kerry ever deal with people in this state of belief?  I think it would take the highly evolved  James T. Kirk and  Spock from the USS Enterprise to deal with such characters.  They do not compute in my mind at all.

Richard Falk, Hamas's Patsy

The French Resistance Fighters from WWII have been compared to Hamas terrorists by the Jewish American Richard Falk b: 1930, a recently expelled member of the Human Rights Watch Committee in December.  This UN Special Rapporteur  has held this position since 2008.  This certainly is a slap in the face for these brave Frenchmen of whom most must be deceased by now.

He's a Jew attacking Israel and siding with Palestinian terrorists.  For a lawyer, he's just throwing out nonsense.  Palestinians were immigrants coming to find jobs from the newly arrived Jewish immigrants who were joining up with Jews that never left the land.  They were building and the Arabs wanted jobs.  Most had no connection to the land and had no ideas of creating a state until 1967. Only a few had land and most were nomads.   Jews had lived in this land since Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the land, then called Canaan.  Saul was their first king in the 11th Century BCE..  David followed and then his son, Solomon.  Jews have a history here which is part of their religion, culture and history never forgotten.  Never forgotten except by Richard Falk, that is.

 He also compared Israel's treatment of the Palestinians to the actions of the Nazis and told others that the US government may have had foreknowledge of the 9/11 attacks.   He is an 82 year old  former professor of International Law at Princeton U. which is amazing considering the stand he has taken against Israel that differs from many other international lawyers.  This man has been so critical of Israel that Israel had to finally say he wasn't even allowed in their country.

He makes anti-Israel statements that are picked up by the Liberal Democratic Friends for Palestine that attacks Israel and defends Hamas.

Falk wrote about Meshaal's visit to Gaza last month and offered excuses for this terror chief's pledge to recover the whole of historic Palestine no matter how long it might take by saying that Meshall used a fiery language in Gaza but was far more moderate in several interviews with Western journalists.  Evidently he believes only the moderate speech.

The moderate tone was of Meshal is highly impossible anyway.    He was offering a truce if Israel ended their occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza and agree to uphold Palestinian rights under international law.

This was the Right of Return in which 4-5 million Palestinian refugees could flock into Israel.  He modified this by saying that "It would threaten the Jewish majority presence in Israel."  Evidently he's not concerned about that.  It's something that Israel will not go along with.

Falk wrote that Israelis should take the Gaza speech of Khaled Meshaal not as an expression of the Hamas creed but as outlining a unified and secular Palestine governed with human rights standards and the rule of law with respect to international law if there is going to be a 2 state solution in the near future.  I think Falk lives in La La Land.  There is no evidence at all that a terrorist organization such as Hamas who sacrifices its own people to gain their goals would do anything fit and proper.

The USA is not dealing with this terrorist organization.  Israel is not dealing with them, either.  It has been Abbas of Fatah who is the one that Netanyahu has wanted to speak with.  What on earth is Falk doing, playing up to Meshaal?  Well, something got him expelled from the UN position.  He wrote on his blog that he had been asked to resign by the organization "Human Rights Watch Committee." He tought it was because of his connection with the UN, which is contrary to HRW policy.  How nice to know for sure that they are contrary.  The difference is that we are on the Human Rights side and he isn't.  Certainly Hamas isn't.
