Prisoner Exchange Hezbollah Terrorist Dies in Air Attack Over Lebanon

Nadene Goldfoot

3 Katyusha rockets were shot into Israel from Lebanon yesterday from a village 3 miles from Israel's border.  It evidently was a revenge assassination firing by Hezbollah for their notorious Commander, Samir Kuntar,  who was killed in an airstrike near Damascus.  It was a plane that hit a residential building in the suburbs of Damascus, killing Kuntar, reported Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah leader.  "
  • Kuntar was sentenced to life in prison for killing three Israelis in 1979 but released in the  high-profile 2008 swap.  Kuntar served 30 years in an Israeli prison for murder before he was released in a prisoner swap between Israel and Hezbollah seven years ago.
  • He had been a bloody killer even though he himself was 16 at the time.  "Kuntar was convicted of a 1979 attack in which he shot and killed an Israeli man in front of his 4-year-old daughter, then smashed her head against a rock with his rifle butt, tossing her body into the sea. The victim's 2-year-old daughter was accidentally smothered by her mother, who tried to keep her quiet as they hid from the attackers who arrived in Israel from Lebanon by boat."
  • Justice has been served, no matter who was flying the plane.

Who Were the Philistines? Not to be Confused with Palestinians

Nadene Goldfoot

The Philistines were the enemy of Israel in the biblical days from the 12th and 11th centuries BCE.  "The Bible portrays them at one period of time as among the Kingdom of Israel's most dangerous enemies."  They were a Mediterranean people who first came from Asia Minor and Greek places.  They had sailed to the Middle East's Canaan in waves at different times.  One group came before Abraham had settled in Canaan and they settled south of Beersheba in Gerar where they fought against Abraham and his son, Isaac.

Another group came from the island of Crete after being kicked out of Egypt by Rameses III in the year 1194 BCE.  They had taken over the coastal area of Canaan where they founded 5 places:  Gaza, Ascalon (Ashkalon), Ashdod, Ekron, and Gath.

"Their highly-developed weapons brought a great threat to the Israelites. During the Exodus from Egypt, the Israelites purposely took a southern route to circumvent them.

Philistines had captured the Ark of the Covenant.  In the Ark was the Tablelts of the Law,
the 10 Commandments, which stood for the covenant between G-d and his
people.
The Philistines  had captured it after defeating the Israelites in a battle at a location between Eben-ezer, where the Israelites encamped, and Aphek, (probably Antipatris) where the Philistines encamped.  The Philistines suffered so many plagues from taking the ark that they returned it.  "The ark stops at Beth Shemesh before finding a more permanent home at Kiriath-Jearim."
By nature they were a fighting people of a sea-faring nation  and dominated parts of Judah in the period of the Judges which was a time before Saul was king of Israel.  Before Saul, the Israelites had judges, like Deborah who had decided what was best for the people.  Saul was able to temporarily defeat the Philistines.

King Saul fought against the Philistines but was ultimately defeated.  After Saul, David was chosen as king and he ended the era of Philistines holding land and overran Philistia.  When the Israelite kingdom dissolved after King Solomon died in 920 BCE, and Judah was born out of the southern section of the kingdom, the Philistines re-established their independence but never became the serious enemy again.

Much later, in the Persian and Greek Periods, foreign settlers, mainly from the Mediterranean islands, overran the Philistine districts.  From the time of Herodotus, Greeks called Palestine after the Philistines.  The proper name was Syria Palaestina.

Under Hadrian, (Roman emperor from 117-138)  the Romans gave the name, Palestine,  officially to the former land of Judah, the southern section which today is officially Judea and Samaria.   Hadrian had fought against Judah's General Bar Kokhba and had an army of 35,000 to fight against the Jewish general.  The commander was Julius Severus.  They had come in from the Galilee and then fought actions for the Valley of Jezreel, Ephraim and the Judean Hills.  They eventually retook Jerusalem.

They had chosen the name of  Palestine because the Philistines had been a long time enemy of the Israelites, and the Romans wanted to erase the memory of the Jews living there.

This was in 135 when the Romans had to fight against General Bar Kokhba of the Jewish people and it had been the hardest fight they had had from any people.  Bar Kokhba had taken Jerusalem back.  He was a descendant of King David.

Incidentally, the word, Jews, comes from the tribe of Judah who had been living in what became the state of Judah since the other 10 tribes had been forcefully taken away by the major Assyrian attack in 722 and 721 BCE.

Our biblical hero, Samson, had to fight against the Philistines.  He was from the tribe of Dan and was an
Israelite judge.  From birth, he was sworn into being a Nazirite and had great strength and courage.  His feats against the Philistines showed the Israelites' desire for freedom from the Philistine suzerainty or domination.  At the end of his life he had fallen into the Philistine hands because of the woman he loved, Delilah, a Philistine woman.  She had told the Philistine soldiers the secret of Samson's strength and that was his long hair.  They had put his eyes out and Samson was forced to turn the prison mill.  All the Philistine population nearby made fun of him at a festival in Gaza.  He got his strength back and destroyed the building which helped to kill all the people, including himself.  (Judg. 13-16).

King David (1000-960 BCE)  had to fight against the Philistines.  At age 25, David was the armor-bearer for Saul.  His best friend was Saul's son, Jonathan.  He was famous for being able to be successful in fighting against the Philistines.  Because of this he was able to marry Saul's daughter,  Michal.  David succeeded in breaking the Philistine military power and annexed the entire coastal land belt to be part of Israel.  When David died, he was buried in Jerusalem.

David, when a young boy, had fought against the tallest Philistine in their army, the giant, Goliath.  He killed him with his slingshot, a hit to the right spot in the head.  Goliath was from Gath, one of the 5 Philistine cities in the southern coastal plain.  Gath was later taken by the Assyrian king Sargon in the 8th century BCE in their gigantic attack on Israel.  Gaza  City had also been taken by the Philistines.  It was only 2 miles from the sea.  Although it was allotted to the tribe of Judah by Moses-Joshua through G-d, it remained in Philistine hands and was the place of the imprisonment and death of Samson.  By 521 BCE it had gone from Sargon of Assyria to Cambyses of Persia.  Alexander the Great recolonized it as a hellenistic city by 332 BCE.  More people later were the rulers.

Eli, the high priest at the shrine of Shiloh and one of the last Judges in the 11th century BCE, was the mentor of Samuel.  He had a run-in with the Philistines.  He came to this high position at the age of 58 and died 40 years later as a result of falling from his chair when he heard that the Philistines had captured the Ark (I Sam. 4:13)

The land of Canaan was given to the Israelites by G-d's direction.  Abraham had put up his tent there originally.  Jacob and his family of 70 individuals  had had to go into Egypt from there in time of famine and was held against their will for 400 years as slaves of the Pharaoh.  They were to return.  The Canaanites themselves were a mixture of 11 different peoples. who lived in the area between the Nile and the Euphrates.  The people living in what was Syria used the name, Canaanites, for themselves.  These Canaanites were actually a mixture mainly of Horites, Hittites and Hebrews from the Hyksos period in the 17th century BCE.

The Canaanites were almost entirely obliterated or assimilated by the Israelites in the 13th century BCE, the Philistines along the coast in the 12th century BCE, and the Arameans in the North in the 11th century BCE.  The ones who survived these attacks became  subjects of Kings David and Solomon and were thus absorbed.  Later, the name of Canaanites was preserved only with the Sidonians and Phoenicians.  Like the Philistines, they are no more.  The land was not called  Palestine by the Israelites but Eretz Yisrael-the Land of Israel.  Syria was called " Aram."

Arson Terrorists Hit Home in Duma

    Nadene Goldfoot
Duma is in Samaria (Israel) near Nablus (Shechem in the Bible) more than Judea.    Judea was created after King Solomon died from the southern half of Israel.  The red dot did not transfer to this picture.

Evidently some Jewish extremists are breaking our own rules of  ethics  and have stepped over the line in their horrid arson attack today on a Palestinian family in Duma.  They will be caught.

"Abbas said he had ordered his foreign minister to file a complaint at the International Criminal Court in The Hague."

My thoughts on this are that there have been horrible things that have happened to Israelis living in Judea and Samaria, and now something has turned and it has happened to a Palestinian family. Too bad we didn't turn to the Hague immediately.   What was the reaction of everyone when a Jewish family was slaughtered in a very bloody attack  several years ago?  Remember that?

The Itamar attack, also called the Itamar massacre, was an attack on a Jewish family in the Israeli settlement of Itamar in the West Bank that took place on 11 March 2011, in which five members of the same family were murdered in their beds. The victims were the father Ehud (Udi) Fogel, the mother Ruth Fogel, and three of their six children—Yoav, 11, Elad, 4, and Hadas, the youngest, a three-month-old infant. According to David Ha'ivri, and as reported by multiple sources the infant was decapitated  The settlement of Itamar had been the target of several murderous attacks before these killings .

Well, 2 wrongs don't make a right;  ever. However, this is how we learn.  If the Jewish family's death wasn't dealt with by the Palestinians  in the manner in which Israel is now handling this case, it remained a festering sore in some Jewish teens' minds.  It was also a time for a good sermon on why we can't turn around and do the same thing to Palestinians and why we're not like that.  The arsonists didn't learn a thing except to copy their enemy.  Isn't that what Golda Meier said that she hated?

Golda Meir

“We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us.”  She said that never dreaming that we would have a couple of Jewish copycats do a similar horrid  deed.

News Resources - Israel and the Mideast:
  • Prime Minister Condemns "Horrific, Heinous Terror Attack" on Palestinians - Marissa Newman

  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday forcefully condemned the arson attack on a Palestinian family - in which an infant was burned to death - as a "horrific, heinous" crime that is "a terror attack in every respect." Two homes in the Palestinian village of Duma, south of Nablus, were set alight, and Hebrew words spray-painted on their walls overnight Thursday, apparently by Jewish extremists. An 18-month-old child was killed in the attack, while his father, mother, and 4-year-old brother were injured. The mother was in critical condition.

  •     The prime minister said he instructed the security forces to "use all the resources at their disposal to capture the killers and bring them to justice as soon as possible." He added that "The State of Israel deals forcefully with terror, regardless of who the perpetrators are." Netanyahu said the Israeli government was "unified in its fierce opposition to these awful, base acts."  (Times of Israel)

Ya'alon referred to the incident as "a most severe terrorist act that we cannot tolerate, and we condemn in every way," and he sent his condolences to the Dawabsha family.

  •     He noted that all Israeli security forces are making a "supreme effort" to find those responsible, saying, "we will pursue them until we get our hands on them. We will not allow Jewish terrorists to harm the lives of Palestinians across Judea and Samaria. We will fight them in every way, with every tool at our disposal."

2014's summer in Israel-Hamas supplied by Iran

One year ago, Israel was forced into a 50-day war to stop rocket attacks from Gaza. The conflict caused death and terrible suffering in Israel.

"'It was 2 am in Israel when sirens sounded in the Lachish region, a frightening wake up call, alerting people to rush to shelters. The Gaza rocket fire at Israel does not only put the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians at risk but it is a deliberate decision to target civilians. It seems that Ashkelon is their prime target these past 2 months.

Ashkelon is the Portland, Oregon's sister city and houses the Barzilai Medical Center that serves the whole area including Palestinians. it's Israel's front line hospital on the Gaza border.

Beach at Ashkelon
It's a beautiful beach city of 120,000 residents in an area of farms and citrus groves.  This city is between the desert and the sea, close to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Beersheva.  Besides it's beauty and all it has to offer, it is the oldest city recorded in the Bible with a history that goes back 4,000 years.
Ashkelon's modern section was founded when Afridar, a town established by South African Jews in 1952, and Migdal, a former Arab town, merged.  A national park in Ashkelon includes Greek and Roman ruins and the remains of ancient synagogues.  A Roman tomb decorated with frescoes, the ruins of a Byzantine church, and a wall built by Crusaders are also in the city.  So far in the last few months, people and the city have remained safe.  .

Gaza Ignores Warning: Continues Provoking

Nadene Goldfoot
Iron Dome Worked

Israel's IAF took out a rocket launcher in Gaza last night after it had shot a rocket towards Kibbutz Yad Mordechai.  Sirens were heard to warn the populace at 10:00pm.

Hamas accuses a jihadist group who are attacking them, inference of it being ISIS or one of a copy-cat of Hamas, being they are so close in goals and behaviors..

Shooting a rocket from Gaza towards a Kibbutz
The UN, in the meantime, have made a ruling,  unfavorable as usual,  towards Israel.  They understand nothing of what has been going on but act as judge and jury.   Netanyahu called their report "flawed and biased."

Does anyone know on their panel the difference between offensive and defensive attacks?  Is their no difference in their basket of morality rules the difference between wanting to drive someone out-lock, stock and barrel, and defending oneself against such attacks?

Defensive measures needed for tiny Israel
They may want to see Israel just take all the slings and arrows from the Palestinians without complaint, but it ain't goin ta happen.  Israel is not made up of appeasers, but defenders.  The genes of Aluf Bar Kochba and King David run in their bloodline.  They are there to stay and the Palestinians would be better off if they would accept that fact and work together with Israel for the betterment of their people.  After all, Israel is not trying to run them out.  Israelis gave up living in Gaza years ago in the name of peace.  They've been kicked in the shpelkas for being more than reasonable and peaceful.  The UN does not know how to measure acts other than the black and white kind.  Leave or stay.  Since Israel is staying, they are in the wrong in their eyes.  No matter what great lengths Israel has gone to not hit Arab citizens  in Gaza in their defensive operations, it hasn't mattered a twit to the UN.  At least it matters to Israel.  They know they did everything in their power; something their enemy would never do for them.

What Provoking War With Israel Will Bring

Nadene Goldfoot
Hezbollah Terrorist
Nasrallah, head of Hezbollah with Iran's Ayatollah Khamenei

Israel has been attacked either  by surrounding nations or the many  terrorist groups that have sprung up around her since 1948 in their War of Independence that started on November 29, 1947.  68 years of such stubborn actions to show they do not want to make peace with Israel and the ensuing damnations from their sympathizers are something Israel's military has to be constantly prepared for.  Israel is on the alert from attacks by Hezbollah in Lebanon now.  Recent threats have come from Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah.  Gaza has started firing missiles into southern Israel.

                                                  Hezbollah (Party of God)

Lebanon is another small country who is Israel's neighbor harboring Hezbollah.  Lebanon had the normal population of about 4,196,453 but today must have doubled or tripled with Syrian refugees added to the mix.  This was the fun state to come to for vacations, as it was only 60% Muslim and used to have a Christian majority government.  Today, Hezbollah terrorists have taken over.  They are sponsored by Iran.  The citizens of Lebanon have gone along with them, one even showing  a picture of their leader on their living room wall.

Their ideology is that of Shia Islamic fundamentalist terrorism as a political party.  Their goal is to establish an Islamic state across the Arab world and eliminate Israel.  They believe in fighting "Western imperialism" which would be the USA, for one.

They support Palestinian terror groups, set up cells in Judea and Samaria and Gaza, and continuously attack across the border of Lebanon/Israel.  The USA State Dept lists them as a terrorist organization.

Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel of the IAF in Israel in an interview with a German newspaper, explained how they have now warned Lebanese civilians of upcoming attacks and said that if provoked, they will not restrain themselves.  They've warned Hamas and Hezbollah and told them they'll hit their command centers whether they are in a building in Lebanon or Gaza if attacked.  They have reason to believe that Hezbollah has been preparing for the next combat round with Israel and to realize that Israel will be forceful.  They will do everything in their power not to hit citizens, and will be told to evacuate first.

Hamas terrorists -hiding identity behind black masks
Hezbollah and Hamas are working together to provoke Israel.  .  In the last several years the terrorists have been transferring their military facilities into civilian areas, again using their own population as a human shield.  This is so terrible since the population is over- flooded with refugees and they are living in every empty nook and cranny they can find.

Hezbollah has been working hard to prove that Israel has no right to be in the Middle East.  They are trying to undermine their legitimacy in the region.  So they fight.  I suppose they were much happier under the crooked Ottoman Empire who kept everyone down.  Well now, they are probably going to ruin this happy oasis of fun and games that Lebanon has been, sort of like the Las Vegas  or Paris of the Middle East.

Hezbollah has been acting as if they are the great provider for their country, the protector. That seems to be how the public is viewing them.

When asked in a TV program last night what their greatest problem is right now, a representative of Lebanon's programming  said it was ISIS.   Once they solve that problem, they can fact the Israeli problem, he inferred.  Evidently he'd be happier if Israel were out of the way, too.

Last night CNN's Anthony Bourdain, Parts Unknown, featured his 3rd trip to Beirut called Back To Beirut,  and as a chef, showed different scenes of Anthony eating lovely food there.  In one scene they spoke with an educated English speaking Syrian refugee telling about their horrid living conditions and the next scene was in a gorgeous American style kitchen and dining room eating enough food for any army that looked scrumptious.  What caught my eye was the picture on the living-room wall of Nasrallah, and his comment about doing without Israel later.  An interview of a young Syrian lady refugee asked her what would happen to her when her visa was up, which was in a few months, and she didn't know.  She feared she'd have to return to Syria and die there.  I have a friend in Damascus.  I am worried about him and his family as well.

Here Israel is taking care of  many Syrian refugees'  bodily injuries and the general population is following their leaders'  detestable attitude towards Israel.  It was Lebanon's Christian Militia led by Major Hadad in the 80's when they were pretty good friends with the Lebanese Christians.  .

Israel warned and warned and warned Gaza civilians of their coming to attack the terrorists who had attacked them, but it did no good.  They had used text messages and phone announcements and still they didn't move.  This enemy's immorality kept them in full view of impending attacks and in harm's way.

Southern Israel Hit With Rocket Attacks Six Times in 2015

Nadene Goldfoot
Rockets from Gaza into Southern Israel

Israel's Operation Protective Edge started July 8,  2014,  came to an end on August 26, 2014. It had lasted for 1 month 2 weeks 4 days.   Hamas fired some rockets from Lebanon.

4,594 rockets and mortars had been launched towards Israel.  Gaza and Israel had an unoffical cease-fire.

A cease-fire  lasted for  6 months.  Then in February 2015 , the Palestinians fired one rocket into Israel.

On April 23, Israel's 67th Independence Day (May 14, 1948 birth), a rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel.  It hit an open field in the Sha'ar HaNegev region near Sderot causing no injuries or damage.  Evidently the Arabs knew Israel was using their Hebrew calendar for this event.

In May, Palestinians fired one rocket into Israel.  It was on May 27th when an M-75 or Grad missile impacted in Gan Yavne, a city east of Ashdod.  No report of injuries or damage were noted.

This month, the 4th of June-Wednesday Israel time at about 11:00pm, Ashkelon and Netivot's sirens sounded because 3 rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel and exploded near those cities.  2 landed in Sdot Negev Regional Council area and 1 near Ashkelon.  No casualties or damage were reported.

This time, after 6 rockets had been shot into their land this year,  the IDF retaliated the next morning with airstrikes against empty Hamas training camps in Gaza.  Then the Palestinians complained to Egypt that Israel was hitting them!

The Times of Israel reported: that "a Hamas source told Israel Radio that the rockets may have been fired by a cell of Salafist extremists allied with the Islamic State in retaliation for one of its members being killed by Hamas on Tuesday. The source said that Hamas was deploying its troops across the Gaza Strip to keep the peace."

So here we have fighting in Gaza over supremacy; Hamas and Salafist IS terrorists.  At this time, Obama is claiming that Israel really doesn't want peace, and it's Israel who is the victim of terrorism and their associated bombing!   I think that all Obama is concerned with is filling in his list of Things to Do during his 2nd term in office, regardless of what's going on.

Ashkelon is constantly in danger from bombing.  In the early 1950s, many South African Jews settled in Ashkelon, establishing the Afridar neighbourhood. They were followed by an influx of immigrants from the United Kingdom.  In 2011 the city had a population of 117,400.  it holds an important hospital for the area that serves both Arabs and Jews.
