The Trump Administration is trusting a former leader in al-Qaeda, a compilation of terrorists, to lead Syria in an honest way. Where I am getting information of stealing, both Jolani AKA President Sharaa and his buddies, the International Community, led by Trump, is oblivious to what is really going on within the people who live there.
- International Relations: Sharaa addressed the UN General Assembly in September 2025, the first Syrian leader to do so in nearly 60 years.
- Al-Sharaa then visited the United States in November 2025, meeting with President Trump at the White House—a historic first for a Syrian president in nearly 80 years.
- Sanctions Relief: In November 2025, the UN Security Council voted to remove al-Sharaa and his interior minister from the ISIL and al-Qaeda sanctions list. Concurrently, the US, UK, and European Union waived or lifted many of their sanctions, facilitating aid and potential foreign investment for Syria's reconstruction. Notice how the UN led the way to pave Jolani's road of lifted sanctions with Trump following.
- Background and Image: Al-Sharaa was formerly the leader of the al-Qaeda-affiliated group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) under the nom de guerre Abu Muhammad al-Jolani and previously had a $10 million US bounty on his head. Since becoming president, he has worked to present a more moderate image, breaking formal ties with extremist groups and vowing to lead a government that can restore stability.
- Domestic Issues: His government is focusing on economic recovery, security stabilization, and the return of refugees.
- However, his rule has been marked by instances of sectarian violence, which he has pledged to investigate and address. Evidently this has not yet happened.
- Regional Security: Al-Sharaa has committed to joining the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and is working towards a new security arrangement with Israel, while accusing the latter of stoking regional tensions. (Accusing Israel of causing tension? If Syria would follow their promises, it would help a lot !!! ) The European Union has committed significant financial support for Syria's recovery efforts. (Here 's where they probably filling their pockets from).
HTS and Syria-Noah Mohammedelamien, Terrorism Studies Intern
At the head of post-Assad Syria is the founder of HTS, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani (BBC, 3). Abu Mohammed al-Jolani has been registered as for UN Al-Qaida sanctions since 2013 (UN Security Council 1). Al-Jolani’s background as founder of HTS leads back to the founding of Jabhat al-Nusra or Nusra front in 2011 as an affiliate group of al-Qaeda (CSIS).Prior to joining al-Qaeda affiliates he would fight in the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, where in 2005 he was imprisoned in Camp Bucca and would become affiliated with leaders of al-Qaeda and ISIS (BBC, 3).
Al-Jolani would sever ties with al-Qaeda due to political and strategic differences in the organization (CTC West Point). In July 2016, al-Jolani would publicly dissolve Nusra front and establish Jabhat Fatah al Sham (FTS), a group that had cut off “external ties” or public communication with al-Qaeda (CSIS). Interesting that he did this in the middle of the Civil War.
Syria's Civil War started on March 15, 2011, with anti-government protests and escalated into a full-scale conflict, effectively ending in late 2024 when President Bashar al-Assad was ousted, leading to a new transitional government in December 2024. The conflict, sparked by Arab Spring protests, involved multiple factions and foreign powers, causing a massive humanitarian crisis, but the armed conflict phase concluded with Assad's fall from power.
On 8 December,2024, Syrian opposition forces captured Damascus after Bashar al-Assad's forces withdrew and subsequently announced the collapse of Assad's regime.
I take it that the Syrian opposition forces belonged to Jolani's team. Damascus was captured by a coalition under MILITARY OPPERATIONS COMMAND, spearheaded by HTS, Jolani's team, with the Southern Operations Room and the Syrian Free Army.
The Syrian Free Army (SFA, Arabic: جيش سوريا الحرة), previously known as the Revolutionary Commando Army (RCA, Arabic: جيش مغاوير الثورة), and the New Syrian Army (NSA, Arabic: جيش سوريا الجديد), was a United States Army–trained opposition faction in southeast Syria. It was hosted at the US military's al-Tanf base and is now part of the Syrian Ministry of Interior.
Founded as an expansion of the Authenticity and Development Front by Syrian Arab Army defectors and other rebels during the Syrian civil war on 20 May 2015, the New Syrian Army sought to expel the Islamic State from southeastern Syria. In December 2016, the New Syrian Army dissolved, and the remnants of the group formed the Revolutionary Commando Army. The group was known for corruption, which led to the U.S. Central Command dismissing its former top official Mohanad al-Tala in 2022.
Did the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023 have anything to do with Jolani's decision about al-Qaeda?
