Anti-Tank Missile Aimed at Farmers

An Israeli air force  pilot killed one terrorist Thursday in response to the many attacks on southern Israel by Hamas terrorists this past week.  The attack happened east of Gaza City.

Earlier the IDF armored corps artillery forces attacked a Hamas terror cell  that operated within Gaza.  They were ready to launch an anti-tank missile at Israeli soldiers patrolling the security fence.

On Monday, Kibbutz Yad Mordechai was targeted  by an anti-tank missile along with sniper fire aimed at a group of farmers in a field and cars including a child's infant seat that was directly targeted.  A bullet hole pierced the back of the infant's seat.  Luckily, the 7 month old wasn't in it at the time.  The kibbutz, started in 1930 by Polish Jews, relocated to its present site a few miles south of Ashkelon in 1943.  It remembers its founders fighting the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto.  In 1948 they were attacked by Egypt.

Southern Israel has endured at least 300 strikes by Gazan terrorists so far this year.  This puts all of southern Israel in jeopardy as they never know where they will land.  .

Ashkelon, Portland's sister city, is the home of Barzalai Hospital where all people, both Israelis and Arabs can come for their wounds and find medical assistance.  They've had to go underground in order to continue helping people, and that means to dig down to a lower level for protection. The  Ashkelon Marina is well known in the yachting community as a center for International rallies and regattas.  It's famous marina is large enough for 600 ships and is located between two beaches.

Gaza Strip Continues Attacks on Israel

On Tuesday the IAF were able to stop a terror cell and their smuggling tunnel in Northern Gaza.  They were ready to launch rockets into Israel and caught in the act.  . 

Then today one of our IDF tanks was fired on by what was thought to be an anti-tank missile from the Palestinians. near the security fence. It could have also been a roadside bomb. The tank  had entered the Strip in southern Gaza doing their checking. 

The Palestinians say that 3 bulldozers and 5 tanks had entered the strip and were about 300 meters from the security fence near the city of Khan Youris.  They also reported that the tanks had been firing at nearby homes.  The IDF related that the only firing they had done was in response to the rocket fire of the Palestinian terrorists. 

Khan Youris is a city only 4 kilometers from the Sea yet is semi-arid and hot with temperature of 30 degrees centigrade (86 degrees F.) in the summer.  It  houses  leaders of both Hamas and Fatah.  Next door is a refugee camp started in 1948 that was populated by about 35,000 Arabs. 

An IDF soldier was mildly injured, treated on the spot and then taken to the Beersheba Medical Center. 

This attack on an IDF tank by a missile is a repeat of an event on March 18, 2011.  Israel patrols for several reasons; to look for tunnels whereby arms are brought in and to protect it's civilian population from terrorist attacks.

Israeli School Bus Hit: Rockets and Anti-Tank Missile Used Against Israel

Israel had to endure three hours of being attacked by 45 rockets  today.  A rocket taking direct aim at Ashkelon, Portland's sister city, was stopped by a new defense mechanism, the Iron Dome anti-missile system  by Israel which was now tried out.  This all came about after  a Palestinian anti-tank missile hit an Israeli school bus which had just let out 40 children at the nearby stop.  It  injured the school's bus driver and a seriously injured a 16 year old  boy.  A military spokesman said the bus had been struck by an advanced Russian-made Kornet anti-tank missile fired from about two miles away. Hamas, which rules Gaza, asserted responsibility for the attack. added 4/8/11
4/17/11  The boy died today.  He never had regained consciousness. 

Israel responded with an attack using their planes and artillary which killed 3 people.  By nightime the attack was over. 

This attack on Israel by Hamas was in reaction to Israel hitting their security compound in Gaza City after they had been  attacked.
