Israeli Leadership Leading up to and During Six Day War

Nadene Goldfoot

President was Zalman Shazar b: 1889-d: 1974
He was president from April 23,1963 to March 26, 1968
Belarus, Russia born, died in Jerusalem.
He visited Palestine in 1911 but returned to Russia to serve in the army. In 1924, after his release, he immigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine, settling in Tel Aviv, and became a member of the secretariat of the Histadrut.

Levi Eshkol of Mapai was Israel's 3rd Prime Minister and was serving during the Six Day War that is so important in our history.  He served from December 22, 1964, came came into the position when David Ben Gurion resigned.  He remained until February 26, 1969 when he died of a heart attack in Jerusalem.
Levi immigrated to Palestine in 1914 and remained, and worked in farming.  He became a founder in the Labor Party that has been to the left of politics.  He was also a founder of Histadrut and Haganah.

Moshe Dayan b: 1915 in Degania, Palestine -d: 1981
Haganah member, founder of the Palmah, lost eye in 1941 when
soldier in British army serving in Lebanon.

Just before the Six Day War, he joined the government as minister of defense.
A Sabra (born in Israel), soldier and statesman who led Israel to dramatic victories over its Arab neighbours and became a symbol of security to his countrymen.
A deceptive calm had been going on for the past 10 years.

The UN Emergency Force remained in its position between Egypt and Israel.
The Frontier with Egypt was so quiet.  Other spots had problems occasionally.
It was an illusory calm.
The Arabs had not lost their hostility and hatred for Israel.
Egypt was the chief instigator and were showing it in their speeches.

                                      Gamal Abdul Nasser b: 1918-d: 1970
                                              2nd President of Egypt
He was  head of the Arab coalition against Israel which decreed the closing of the Straits of Tiran to Israel shipping.  During the Six Day War he started, he
lost his air force and much of his army and well as the entire Sinai peninsua, he was rapidly defeated.  Russians supported him and he rearmed his forces rapidly.

"WE BELIEVE THAT THE EVIL WHICH WAS PLACED IN THE HEART OF THE ARAB WORLD SHOULD BE ERADICATED."Letter to King Hussein, from Naser, March 13, 1961

"THE PROSPECTS ARE FOR WAR WITH ISRAEL.  IT IS WE WHO WILL DICTATE THE TIME.  IT IS WE WH WILL DICTATE THE PLACE." Speech from Cairo, February 24, 1964.

"THE ARAB NATIONAL AIM IS THE ELIMINATION OF ISRAEL."Nasser's published statement with President Aref of Iraq on May 25, 1965.
Johnson was president from 1963 to 1969.
He was a Democrat from Texas
b: August 27, 1908-d: January 22, 1973

During his period Eshkol annulled military rule over Arabs.  President Lyndon Baines Johnson invited him to the White House, a first for Israel and the USA.

"The special relationship he developed with President Lyndon Johnson would prove pivotal in securing US political and military support for Israel during the "Waiting period" preceding the Six-Day War of June 5, 1967.
The waiting period (Hebrewתקופת ההמתנה‎,Tkufat HaHamtana) was a 3-week interval in the history of Israel, May 15 – June 5, 1967, between the Egyptian crossing of the Suez Canal into the Sinai Peninsula and the outbreak of the Six-Day War.
According to Michael Oren, Eshkol's intransigence (refusal to change his mind) in the face of military pressure to launch an Israeli attack is considered to have been instrumental in increasing Israel's strategic advantage as well as obtaining international legitimacy, yet at the time he was perceived as hesitant, an image cemented following a stuttered radio speech on 28 May.
The Egyptian President Nasser's ever more overt provocations, created diplomatic support for Israel. Eshkol eventually established a National Unity Government together with Menachem Begin's Herut party, conceding the Defense portfolio to Moshe Dayan."
Yes, Israel waited for 3 weeks, from May 15 for international action of UN to stop the escalation and remove the threat that had amassed in its borders.  The was Syria, Egypt and the Soviet Union who had spread false reports of concentrations of Israeli forces on the Syrian frontier.  They ignored the on the spot reports by the UN that no such concentrations existed.
These false reports were used by Egypt as a pretext for concentrating the bulk of its army in Sinai;  90,000 men and 900 tanks.
Egypt then demanded that the UN Emergency Force withdraw and stop serving as a barrier between Egypt and Israel.  The UN left the scene.
Egypt closed the Straits of Tiran to all navigation to Israel and called for war.
Egypt led the Arab States in forming a war pact against Israel. The armies of Jordan, Iraq and Syria began to concentrate their forces along the frontiers with Israel.  The Jordanian Army was put under the command of an Egyptian officer.
Arab leaders said publicly their intention was to destroy Israel.
"THE ARAB PEOPLE WANTS TO FIGHT.   WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE RIGHT DAY WHEN WE WOULD BE FULLY PREPARED...RECENTLY, WE HAVE FELT STRONG ENOUGH TO TRIUMPH  WITH GOD'S HELP, IF WE ENTER INTO BATTLE WITH ISRAEL.  ON THAT BASIS, WE HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE THE ACTUAL MEASURES.  TAKING THIS STEP MAKES IT IMPERATIVE THAT WE BE READY TO EMBARK ON A TOTAL WAR WITH ISRAEL. " Nasser speech, May 26, 1967.

Our soldiers seeing wall in Jerusalem, first for them
The miracle happened.  Israel destroyed the armies that had massed along its frontiers and menaced its vital centers.  Cease-fire lines were established along the Suez Canal, the Jordan River and the Golan Heights.  The Straits of Tiran were once again open to navigation.  Jerusalem was then re-united as it had been a divided city.  This enabled Jews for the first time to enter Jerusalem and pray at the Kotel (Wall).  Israelis had been kept out ever since 1948-19 years!
Unfortunately, it was that after trying to eradicate Israel since
1947-49, and 1956, and the 1967 and losing all three major wars, the Arabs did not take this well.  They met in Khartoum, Africa and came up with their 3 no's saying that they would never ever make peace with Israel.

Temple Mount Arabs Bring Hitler Into Egypt's Fight For Leadership

 Nadene Goldfoot

The Temple Mount, an area off limits to Jews by the design of Israel's own government in an act of fairness and sensitivity to their minority Muslim population, was a scene of aggressive anti-Israel rhetoric and hatefulness by Arab Israelis towards their fellow Jewish citizens today.

The Arabs there were getting in on the act of demonstrating for Morsi, the past leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and ousted President by the Egyptian Military who has taken over in an interim position until new elections.  In the poster They are comparing Hitler with the commander in Chief of Egypt's army, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Do they even realize that it was the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Mohammad Amin al Husayni,  who went to Germany to conspire with Hitler against the Jews?  It was the Grand Mufti who had organized rioting and massacres against the Jews in "Palestine" when the British held the mandate.  The Grand Mufti was probably the Granddaddy of the Muslim Brotherhood.  They've pulled out the wrong evil empire representative to compare with Sisi.

King  Abdullah I of Jordan, a distant relative,  had to remove the Grand Mufti from this position and banned him from Jerusalem.  It was Abdullah who was in agreement in Israel's creation, but he had turned against the idea when he saw that Britain had promised the Jews more land than he was led to believe.  Neither the Jews nor Abdullah saw promises from Britain come to fruition.  In the end it was the Jews who accepted the lot while the Arabs did not.

Egypt does not think of the ousting of Morsi as a coup.  As one government employee, Ahmed Ragab,  in Cairo puts it, "If you have roaches in the kitchen that are eating away at your food,, what do you do?  You spray them,"  he said.  "These are not Islamists.  They are terrorists."

The Muslim Brotherhood's charter has as its goal to destroy Israel, so anyone sticking up for the Military on the Temple Mount was taunted by them to be on the side of Jews.  Yet here they all are, freely demonstrating without being carried off to the police station or hit with a baton, right in Israel.  They are not even free to do that in Egypt, and for many reasons.  There it has turned into a war with the Muslim Brotherhood behaving like terrorists and instigating all the fight against the citizens of Egypt along with the military.  The demonstrations in Egypt have turned into savage death events.

Cairo, a city of over 18 million people, has almost 3 times the population of Israel's 7 million.  Egypt has continued to have a peace pact with Israel since Sadat, who came to Israel in a show of sincere peace  and spoke to the Knesset on November 20, 1977.  Egypt's total population is about 91 million people.

"El-Sisi was the youngest member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces of Egypt. On 12 August 2012, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi took a decision to replace Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the head of the Egyptian Armed Forces, by el-Sisi, and promoted him to the rank of General.   El-Sisi also took the post of Minister  and Military Production in the Qandil Cabinet."

The Islamists of the Muslim Brotherhood have gone after the Christians, the churches and nuns.  They have torched a Franciscan school, took 3 nuns like they were prisoners of war and paraded them in the streets while they were sexually harassed.  Christians had been all of 10% of Egypt's population before the Muslim Brotherhood came into power with Morsi last year.  The pastor, Boulos Fahmy,  of a Catholic church was interviewed and told the reporter that he was terrified and unable to focus.  His church was just a short distance away from a Franciscan school in Bani Suef.  "I am expecting an attack on my church anytime now," he commented.

When the new President Barack Hussein Obama of the USA went to the Cairo University with his speech in 2009,  the Muslim Brotherhood was still being outlawed, but there they were, listening to him speak.  Khaled Hamza, editor of the Muslim Brotherhood website, confirmed that 10 of their parliamentary bloc had received official invitations to attend the speech.  Conservatives in the US were upset because these Muslims were not known to be the conservatives to appeal to.  However, the comeback was that they had renounced the use of violence in the 70's.  What the Muslim Brotherhood wanted most was to see changes in the US foreign policy.  This seemed to start the future power and comeback of the group, recognition by the American President.

Jews Stoned By Muslims at Temple Site in Jerusalem

Nadene Goldfoot

King Solomon (961 BCE- 920 BCE) built our first Temple.  It was built as a shrine for the Ark of the Covenant, the sacred vessels and offerings, with a court for worshipers which was destroyed.   It had consisted of a hall, shrine and the inner sanctum, which was the "holy of holies."  The holy of holies is not mentioned in the Koran but is mentioned many times in the Torah.  For that matter, this very mosque is not mentioned  in the Koran either; only the "farthest mosque".

The holy of holies, called "devir" in Hebrew was where the ark was kept.  It had a raised floor and was windowless.  The ark  was a chest in which the 2 Tablets of the Law were kept, made of acacia wood inlaid and covered with gold.  It was held as being so sacred that even the high priest could see it only once a year on Yom Kipper, the holy day of atonement.  "When the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur, he prayed for the peace of the People of Israel and the entire world." .  From the time of Moses to the Temple, the ark was taken out from the Holy of Holies also  in case of national need to lead the people on their journey and help them in battle.   Legend is that Josiah hid it when the Israelites were attacked by Babylon.   The Temple was destroyed completely by Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylon king  in 586 BCE.

Our 2nd Temple was rebuilt on Mt. Moriah in Jerusalem in 538-515 BCE and destroyed in 70 CE by the Romans .  Surrounding the Temple was the Western Wall, also called the Wailing Wall.  Today, part of the wall still stands in Jerusalem and it is a site where Jews go to pray.  The custom is to put slips of papers with one's prayer in between the stones of the wall.

The Mosque of Omar (3rd holy Muslim site) stands over the site of the Temple Mount, built after 70 CE in the Moslem Period.  It is also called the Dome of the Rock.  It was built in the center of the Temple area (al-Harim ash-Sherif_ in Jerusalem by Caliph Abd al-Malik in about 738 CE to replace the temporary structure set up by Caliph Omar a century earlier.  It is situated on the traditional site of Mt. Moriah.

Moshe Dayan was very careful to allow Muslims the rights to the Mosque. Today the Waqf-the Islamic Religious Authority, with the agreement and cooperation of the Israeli government administer this site.   Extremist Muslims have been stopping Jews from accessing this holiest of Jewish sites in Israel.  Jews are met with attacks who try to get close to the former Temple. Jews are not the only ones wanting to visit.  Most all Christians also expect to visit this site as well.

The site was open from 11am and would reopen from 1:00pm to 2:30pm in the afternoon.  However, 30 teen-aged Arab rioters gathered around 10:30 am Sunday morning and started throwing rocks at the groups of  Jews who were touring the Temple Mount.  This day happened to be the end of the holiday of Passover.

The Jewish group was escorted by the police as called for.  6 rioters were arrested.  There are many Jewish laws connected with how one goes up to and walks the grounds of the Temple Mount.  Because the exact location of the "holy of holies" is not known today, great care must be taken by educated, observant Jews who visit the area.

This was a serious attack during such an important religious holiday.  But this isn't the first, just one of many attacks.  On March 8th, 100 masked extremists attacked security forces by throwing rocks.  This was a Friday and it happened right after the end of Muslim prayers in the mosque.  They then threw petrol bombs at the police who had to fire back with stun guns.  Muslim women blocked the Jews.  Those injured by rocks had to be taken to the hospital.

This is Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.  Why is it that the Muslims cannot tolerate Jews who have legal rights to walk near the mosque at certain designated times as agreed with their waqf?  After all, it was the most sacred Jewish site, The Temple, in the first place.  Understanding, sensitivity that Moshe Dayan displayed is not to be given in return to the Jews?  This is deplorable for any religion.  With such a chip on their shoulder now, what would life be like with a Palestine next door as a neighbor?

The Mind-Set of the Islamic Movement Towards Jerusalem

Aksa Mosque

Nadene Goldfoot
Raed Sulah spent 5 months in Ramle's Ayalon Prison for assaulting and spitting on a police officer who was providing security at a demonstration sponsored by Sulah in 2007. He was just released on Sunday.

He sees a victory over "occupied Jerusalem and the Aksa Mosque and looks forward to the expulsion of Israeli occupation from both of these places. Nothing is more righteous in his eyes than the cause of taking over Jerusalem and the mosque. After his shout-out that they will cling to every piece of earth in Jerusalem, the crowd responded with cheers and then called out that "we'll sacrifice ourselves over al-Aqsa, Oh Raed."

I don't know why he is acting like there is such a problem for the Muslims in relation to this "Temple Mount." The mosque is under the administration of the Palestinian-led Islamic waqf, which consists of the diretor, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Islamic council. They have been allowed by Israel to retain their authority over the Temple Mount since 1967 when Israel won the battle of the Six Day War when Jordan and all the other surrounding countries attacked Israel.

How easily they get themselves all riled up over a city that is not number one of importance in Islam. It is the 3rd mosque that Muslims need to visit. The first is in Mecca and the 2nd is in Saudi Arabia. It was in Jerusalem that monotheism was declared by Judaism. Here, Muhammad stated in the 8th century that the angel Gabriel took him up into heaven on his horse to be shown signs of G-d. He then went back to Mecca.

The waqf prohibits Jews and Christians from entering the mosque. Israel complies with this demand by stationing Israeli soldiers outside to uphold their Islamic rules.

Yet, here is a Muslim leader plotting the takeover of all of Jerusalem and he's now out of prison.

Succah Celebrants Stoned and Attacked
Wednesday evening in the USA was the start of Sukkot, the Feast of the Tabernacles. This holiday lasts for 9 days, ending with a special day of Shmini Atzeret. People are happy and on holiday. It's time to sit in the succah and entertain your friends. Women make all sorts of breads; banana, zucchini, etc to eat in there. I remember how awed I was to see all the succas in Safed, a three sided structure with rugs and blankets making the sides. It was colorful and peaceful from 1981-1985. Everyone made their own succah. This is what was made when Moses left Egypt and took 40 years to get to the Promised Land. We have this unique way of remembering our history. We make and live the story.

Just recently the U.S. administration publicly told Israel to halt constuction in Judea and Samaria AND parts of eastern Jerusalem, which is Israel's capital. The result of this airing was that Palestinians attacked an Israeli guard who was getting gas in Judea/Samaria with stones after cornering him. He in turn fearing for his life shot one of the attackers dead.

A few hours later the Palestinians rioted in eastern Jerusalem, targeting the Temple Mount area and Silwan.

A 35 year old Israeli man was actually stabbed by a rioter near Mt. Scopus and had to go to the hospital while three others were slightly wounded after their car had been overturned by the same rioters.

Israelis are always at the Western Wall praying and today they were hit with stones until the police came to the Temple Mount to stop the rioters.

The attacks were instigated by Fatah militants, the Palestinian party who live in Judea and Samaria, and they were no doubt instigated by their Hamas brothers in Gaza. They're trying to win Jerusalem.

Summing up, 10 Israelis were wounded near the Temple Mount. Peace talks are going on with each participant coming to the table with their needs. Israel wants to be recognized which will make this area peaceful and safe and the Palestinians don't want to do that though they are in the act of talking peace terms. They want all of Judea and Samaria with all Jews gone plus all of Eastern Jerusalem which they will claim to be their capital. Besides this they want all their relatives to be allowed to enter and live there which would overcome Israel. Then we have Hamas who absolutely refuses to be peaceful but wants to kill us all and take over Israel. I don't think this is a very peaceful Succot for Netanyahu.

Arabs Threaten Israel Over Temple Mount: East Jerusalem Riots

by Nadene Goldfoot
Angrier now that Abbas got nowhere with Obama with Israel building in Jerusalem and elsewhere, the Arabs are now threatening with rioting using al-Aqsa mosque as the excuse. This site is revered by both the Muslims and the Jews, and the Muslims regard Jews visiting there intolerable.

This site is the place also called the "Temple Mount" where the Temple in Jerusalem once stood. Israeli police evidently have had to keep Muslims out due to the volatile behavior of the populace. For the Muslims, it is their 3rd holiest site because Mohammed Muhammad was transported from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to al-Aqsa during the Night Journey. (Wikipedia).

There was no problem during the recent Muslim holiday of Ramadan and Muslims had access to the site. Now the Jewish holiday of Succot has started and the Muslims of Israel and surrounding countries are threatening with riots as since Sunday the Israeli police have had to curtail their visits there due to their threats backed up with their rioting.

I notice that many Arab websites have reported on this situation with threats, but Israel websites are few and far between. It could be the start of another infifada. Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said Tuesday he did not believe the recent wave of riots sweeping through the capital signaled the beginning of a third intifada.

What has happened is that some Jews have tried to enter there to pray. One of my relatives, Stanley Goldfoot, had been a member of the Temple Mount group and had been there when alive. He would be there now if he could. His group believes they have the same rights as the Muslims to pray there. Israel has tried to keep things cool and have come down harder on its own people just in order to keep things peaceful.

Notice who is protesting the Jewish attempted visits. Palestinian leaders have issued a series of warnings in the past week after clashes at Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem's Old City between Israeli police and protesters, over alleged attempts by Jewish religious activists to enter the site. According to the Jerusalem Post, rioting started with an Arab boy stabbing a man in the neck. Riots broke out in places after that. Visits to the mosque are restricted to Arab men over 50 today.

My comment is this: If Arabs cannot tolerate Jews praying at the same site they pray at, and this involves "G-d", how in the heck does Obama and other leaders think that they would make good neighbors of Israel? We cannot pray in the same local and this is a peaceful display of religious behavior. They hate us. They do not tolerate us. This is happening in a city that has been associated with Jews since King David, for heaven's sake. Jews have given them more than their fair share of religious rights, but it has not changed their attitudes or behaviors. In fact, they have the exquisite ability to turn the tables and blame the Jews for their rioting! What more do they want? Do I dare to pose the question? We all know what they want: all of Jerusalem, and why? Because it is Israel's city, that's why.

Dedication to Stanley Goldfoot

Nadene Goldfoot
Stanley was one of the members of the Temple Mount. He was one of the fighters in 1948 and was Chief of Intelligence for the Stern Group, and he is my distant cousin. The Temple Mount is a group involved in building the 3rd Temple. Here's their latest comments about Jerusalem Day. If the Palestinians think they will be able to take all of Jerusalem, I think theyd better think again.

The Temple Mount Faithful Presents the Cornerstone for the Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day.  Last week, in celebration of Jerusalem Day and in preparation for the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem, the Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement successfully brought the 13 ton cornerstone for the Third Temple to the streets of downtown Jerusalem. As we explained previously, Jerusalem Day is one of the most important public holidays in Israel. It celebrates the Six Day War, in which Israel, with the help of G-d, liberated all of Judea, Samaria, Gaza, the Golan Heights and the Sinai Peninsula.

It was in the Sinai where G-d gave the Holy Torah to the children of Israel. It is also the place where G-d anointed them to be His chosen people, to be a light to the nations, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. This is the day that the G-d and people of Israel have expected and desired for 1,897 years. The G-d of Israel appeared in this godly war as Israel was attacked by her Arab enemies from all sides. G-d commanded His Israeli forces exactly as He did during biblical times.

End time prophecy became a reality and was fulfilled in six days. This war was not an accident. The G-d of Israel made it clear that He expected His Temple to be rebuilt. It is then that He will open a new godly time in the life of Israel and all the world, just as He prophesied through His prophet Isaiah:"The word that Yesha'yahu the son of Amoz saw concerning Yehuda and Yerushalayim. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all the nations shall flow unto it.

And many people shall go and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the G-d of Ya'aqov; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth Torah, and the word of the Lord from Yerushalayim. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall decide among many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." (Isaiah 2:1-4)All of our plans that we stated in our previous letter were fulfilled, thanks to G-d. They brought hope, encouragement and joy to Israel. We felt the presence of the G-d of Israel among us. He deeply inspired our spirits and hearts. We knew that we were doing G-d's Holy work for Israel and all the world. This great occasion was one of the most exciting and major events that Israel has experienced during this special end time age.

The G-d of Israel appeared to the people of Israel during this godly event. We knew that soon He will resume leadership over all the earth from His Holy Temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem. With this godly inspiration, the Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement came on this Holy day to the people of Israel and all the world to present the 13 ton cornerstone so that the rebuilding of the Third Temple may begin soon.On our way to the Temple Mount, we demonstrated in front of the United States consulate in Jerusalem. We stood against the pressure that is growing from US President Barack Obama and His administration to divide the Land of Israel in order to establish an Arab terrorist state inside the sovereign Land of Israel. This land belongs to Israel alone. It was given by G-d in an eternal covenant for His people Israel for a Holy purpose: so that they would be a Holy nation, a kingdom of priests and a light to the nations (Exodus 19:5-6). We shouted out to President Obama just as we said we would:

"Take your hands off the Land of the G-d and the people of Israel and off Jerusalem!" We warned him of the dreadful consequences, as stated by the Prophet Joel (Joel 4:2).We danced as we reached the Jaffa Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. There, we blew the silver trumpets and swore our faithfulness to Jerusalem. From there, we ascended to the Holy Temple Mount. As we stood there we felt the presence of the G-d of Israel among us calling us to go to His people Israel and to all the world and to share with them His call to rebuild immediately His Holy Temple so that He may again dwell among His people Israel, in the midst of all mankind. This exciting and historical event will never be forgotten in all of the history of Israel and all the world. It opened a new era for all of us. It was actually the first step towards the rebuilding of the Temple in our lifetime.Everyone is called at this historical godly moment to actively join, come and stand together, and help the Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement to complete her major and historic godly campaign to build the Temple of G-d and to bring to pass all of G-d's end time prophetic expectations and plans for Israel and the entire world. In the G-d of Israel we trust! The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement
