The Chemical Warfare From Syria

Nadene Goldfoot

21 years ago in Halabja near the Iran border, a Sarin gas attack

Today is Memorial Day in the states.  We remember our fallen soldiers by going to the cemeteries and placing flowers on their graves.  Jews places stones as a reminder that we were there.  We recognize what they went through to bring our country freedoms that we enjoy and appreciate and thank our fallen soldiers.

In Syria, a Syrian doctor and several medical students were at a grave also, but they were there to take samples of tissue from a man who had died of respiratory failure after a rocket was reported to have spewed poison gas on Dariya, a suburb of the Syrian capital on April 25th.  Syrians have asked the USA to intervene in the 2-year Syrian civil war and are hoping that this further evidence might be enough to get the international community to act.

Obama wants proof that Assad has been using gas or chemical warfare on his people of which over 80,000 have already perished in their civil war.  Last month he had sent a letter to Congress that he had received "physiological samples" that led the US intelligence agencies to conclude...that Assad had used Sarin nerve gas on a small scale.  The US has provided humanitarian and other nonmilitary aid to the rebels, resisting calls to get more involved .  We have found that getting involved leaves us no door to get out of conflicts quickly.  We get mired in them.  So even though Obama had his red line that was not to be crossed before action would be taken with gas attacks, he needs more convincing.  There's always the chance that the rebels would manipulate evidence, so we're being extra cautious.

Israel can't take any chances.  They're neighbors of Syria and not on Assad's hit parade of friends, or rather we are on his hit list.  Assad wouldn't hesitate to use his storage of chemical warfare on Israel, so Israel is going through a week long exercise of what to do in case of chemical warfare.  This is not the first time that Israelis have been issued gas masks and directed to prepare a safe room.  This is why they had bombed the shipment of missiles in Syria about a month ago.

Assad is backed by Iran who are backed by Russia.  What an evil empire they make.

Gaza's Reminder to Obama of Their Presence: Two Qassam Rockets on Sderot

Nadene Goldfoot
On Obama's 2nd day of visiting Israel, at 7:15 am in Sderot, Quassam rockets were fired from Gaza.  What a surprise for a Thursday morning to have a rocket hit your backyard.  Another fell into an open area and about 3 others must have fallen into their own Palestinian territory.  First off, the air raid sirens went off 5 times.  .

This is certainly a break in the quiet enjoyed by the Israelis in southern Israel lately.   It's not a very nice thing to happen just before Passover.

Obama is talking to Assad who isn't all that popular in Gaza.  Could it be a message for Obama as well?

Plans on the Table-Do They Include Deep Throat?

Nadene Goldfoot
Deep Throat is a guided bomb-unit 28 (GBU-28) and weighs 5,000 pounds.  It is laser guided and was used in Operation Desert Storm to penetrate Iraqi underground command centers.  2 were dropped.

During former US President George W. Bush's administration (2001-2009) in 2005, the USA sold 100  bunker-penetrating bombs and refueling aircraft to Israel, possibly  thinking they would be used to strike Iran's nuclear facilities.  By 2006 Israel accelerated the request and finally 55 units were delivered in 2009 as the order had been deferred for 2 years.

When Obama entered the White House,  he approved a string of Israeli requests to purchase advance armament.  Netanyahu requested the approval of the sale of advanced refueling aircraft as well as GBU-28 bunker-piercing bombs during a recent meeting with Leon Panetta in March 2012.  Obama instructed Panetta to work directly with Ehud Barak, Israel's Defense Minister, on the matter.  He indicated that they looked favorably on this request.

WikiLeaks exposed discussions about it about discussions in 2009 noting that it should be quiet to avoid allegations that the USG is helping Israel prepare for a strike against Iran.

The USA sold some to South Korea after North Korea had a practice bomb drill.  They were to be delivered sometime between 2010-2014.

Israel had on December 23, 2011 received bombs fused to prematurely detonate before penetration.  "According to the Jerusalem Post on December 23, 2011 the US Justice Department announced that it had reached a settlement with Kaman Corp. which allegedly substituted a fuse in four lots of fuses made for the bombs. Under the settlement, Kaman Corp. will pay the government $4.75 million. "  Kaman Corp is a USA corporation.

Clinton's Greeting in the Middle East

Nadene Goldfoot
Egypt's military head, field Marshal Hussein Tantawi warned today  after Hillary Clinton left that he won't let the Muslim Brotherhood dominate Egypt, even though Hillary  had advised him to work with Egypt's elected Islamist leaders, so he wasn't very happy with her suggestions. He stated that "Egypt will never fall.  It belongs to all Egyptians and not to a certain group--the armed forces will not allow it."  The military has cut Morsi's powers and has taken over the job of writing a new constitution.

Egypt itself wasn't happy with her either,  boys holding placards showed they hated Israel just a little more than they hated her.  Her motorcade was hit with shoes, tomatoes and a few water bottles.  The people called out "Monika, Monika, remembering her husband's affair just to irk her.

While Egypt's liberals were for the Arab Spring, the liberals and Christians are now accusing Clinton and Obama with forcing the Muslim Brotherhood down Egypt's throat to curry favor with the Islamists.

With that greeting behind her,  Hillary then met with Prime Minister Binyamim Netanyahu in Jerusalem on the last leg of her trip abroad.  She was there to talk about Iran's nuclear power and the stalled peace process with Hamas and Fatah.

As usual, southern Israel at that moment was hit with a rocket at around 9:30pm.  An Israel News Daily article explained what happens is that first the scream of the Color Red rocket alert sounds.  15 seconds later a rocket explodes.  This time it was a short-range Qassam and it exploded somewhere in the western Negev.  Security personel have to go out to locate the site where it exploded.  Israelis must stay in their shelters for 10 minutes after its impact to make sure it's not being followed immediately by another which can happen.

An hour later, another attack did come, this time against the nearby city of Sderot, which is the closest to the Gaza Strip.  This rocket exploded in a field on the outskirts of the city.  Hillary should visit the southern part just to see what it's like and what the population endures from the terrorists.

All Is Not Quiet on the Western Front

Nadene Goldfoot
The month of March saw terrorists from Gaza fire over 200 rockets into Israel over 4 days after terrorists Zuhir Musa Ahmed and Mahmoud Ahmed Mahmoud Hanani were killed.

Fire broke out in the Eshkol region in Southern Israel after it was hit by high trajectory firing into the Israeli territory.  IAF aircraft retaliated by striking 2 direct hits on  weapons storage sites  in northern and southern Gaza on yesterday.

Before, on Sunday the aircraft took out a terrorist tunnel with direct hits.  This came about in retaliation to being hit by a Qassam rocket in the south late Sunday night, exploding in the Eshkol Regional Council.

Friday morning another fight took place between IDF troops and a Gaza terrorist as they were trying to infiltrate the western Negev from Gaza which took the life of a young Golani Brigade soldier.

All this shooting was supposed to have been under a cease fire maintained by Egypt, but for the terrorist groups, only seems to mean that  they just do not fire barrages.  They shoot just as it suits them to remind Israelis that they can do it which disrupts the lives of those in Southern Israel.  How would you like to be the sitting ducks?

April showers brought 10 rockets fired at Israel in 9 separate attacks, two being launched from the Sinai in Egypt this time.  3 were Grad missiles aimed at Eilat on the Red Sea coast.  Some residences suffered from shock.  This happened on the 4th.  On the 8th 2 Qassam were fired into the Sdot Negev in the morning and a rocket was fired at Sderot in the evening.  The Color Red alarm sounded in the city once more.  Sderot has taken upteen hits.  On the 14th Fatah fired a rocket at night with CARE International detecting it coming from east of Jabalia which exploded prematurely.  They did it again the next day with Qassam rockets coming into the Sha'ar Hanegev and Ashkelon areas.  The 22nd, 23rd and 30th also had Qassam rockets fall into the areas.

May is supposed to bring flowers but the Ashkelon area only got another Qassam rocket and Israel decided to retaliate by hitting a tunnel in northern Gaza on the 1st.  Another Qassam rocket shot into Sdot Negev again on the 9th and that brings us to the 15th with a Qassam rocket fired in the morning into Sha'ar Hanegev area.

In this we see that Israel is the target of constant attacks.  Israel retaliates once in a while aiming at the cause, not the people.  Yet we are seen as the bad guys.  Go figure.  What kind of logic is this?  England is being very anti-Israel with many Brits supporting the Palestinian "liberation struggle against Israeli imperialism" as some see it.  This is the same British Empire who conquered and subjugated other countries, controlling over 1/4 of the world at one time where "the sun never set on the British Empire."  Queen Elizabeth II is into her "diamond jubilee" and has never visited Israel yet.

Senator Barack Obama flew into Israel vowing that if he became President he would work towards ending the Israel-Palestine conflict "from the minute he was sworn into office."  He didn't let on that he meant he would work to push Israel back to indefensible lines from 1967 which would mean untold amounts of Israeli lives to be lost. No, it's not popular to be supportive of Israel, but we are anyway.  They're the ones getting attacked and shelled and why?  For existing.

Mitchell and Clinton Nudging Netanyahu With a Stick

Here's the situation. We have Israel surrounded by Muslim states that are out to destroy it. I say that because after 62 years of existence, there have been many wars against it from these neighbors. Hamas terrorists in Gaza rule the area and their charter says to destroy Israel. They are still shooting rockets at Israel. Despite this, USA is pressing Israel to give up land again to create a Palestine on its doorstep.

First it was Mitchell meeting with Netanyahu followed up with THE phone call from Hillary Clinton. Abbas has said that he would finally talk to Netanyahu provided:

provided that they were based on a statement from March 19th by the Quartet of mediators: USA, European Union, Russia and the UN. Out of this quartet, I do not see one group that is pro-Israel in any way. The USA used to be, but the new direction it has taken is more likely to be against us.

The Quartet wants Israel to halt settlement building in Judea/Samaria and come to a full peace agreement with the Palestinians within 24 months. They also want Palestine to be created with borders before the 1967 Middle East war. I just read that Russia is supplying Iran with uranium to start up their program, and Iran is a country who has called for Isael's destruction. I can see how Russia will vote concerning anything about Israel.

Obama wants the talks to go back two years where they had broken off when Israel conducted Operation Cast Lead when rockets were being fired from Gaza by Hamas terrorists for 6 long years. Incidently, rockets are still being shot from there. From January to July of this year, 120 rockets have been fired at Israel.

Clinton conferred before the telephone conversation with the foreign ministers of Jordan and Egypt. They are former countries that have fought against Israel but right now are at peace. I have a feeling that they will go along with Syria and Iran's feeling about having Israel in their midst. It is Syria and Iran who are backing so much of the terror coming from Gaza.

Abbas has no power over Gaza. They are completely in the hands of the Hamas terrorists.
Netanyahu wants the talks to start immediately without any such "precondition". I go along with him. Talks are to talk about things. You don't settle something before the talks. That's what the talks are for. There are a lot of things to talk about, here. The people with the most at stake are the Palestinians who think they want a state so badly. Yet they're playing the "I won't talk to you until I get my own way " game. Hillary endorses this stand, evidently as she is nudging for it.

All of Mitchell's mediations have made little progress that can be seen. I don't know what he thinks he can do when Hamas, not under Abbas's authority, refuses permanent accommodations with our Jewish state. In fact, their charter says they will destroy Israel. I haven't heard of him trying to change their minds on this as a prerequisite for peace, which in my opinion, should have been done a long time ago.

If I were Netanyahu, and thank Ha Shem that I'm not, I would say, when Hamas changes their charter to accept Israel and welcomes Israel and breaks bread with salt with them, then I'd consider talking to Abbas or whoever it would be by then. Otherwise I wouldn't bother wasting my breath talking to them or stressing about it. They're being pig-headed (pardon the expression) , and one can't reason or discuss a thing when they are at this level of reasoning.

Update: 8/15/10 Hamas refuses to talk. Read reference below. Just as I figured. It'll take miracle to get Hamas to consider peaceful conditions.

Conundrum of Palestine-Needing Solomon to Reply
Nadene Goldfoot
Obama is meeting with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah and they're planning on creating Palestine.
"President Barack Obama says he and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia agreed Tuesday on the need to press for Middle East peace in a "significant and bold way," including the creation of a Palestinian homeland". This is from yahoo news. Oh, I'm sure that Abdullah is so unbiased!

Jerusalem doesn't see it happening. Her Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman sees no Palestinian state being created by 2012. He also stated that we can dream, express interest, but in reality we are still far from reaching understandings and agreements on establishing an independent state by then. He was talking to a member of the quartet, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Later Lavrov flew to Cairo to talk with President Hosni Mubarak and their Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

Palestinians and Israelis started talking again in May after not speaking after 17 months. Abbas expects Israel to offer more than they have to make it worthwhile to move to direct talks.

Lieberman of Israel and Lavrov of Russia have very different ositions about Hamas, the ruling terrorist group in Gaza. Russia has contacts with them while the rest of the world see them as terrorists and boycott them.
I ask Solomon, "How can you have an agreement with people who have sworn in their charter to end your life and who have no intention of being peaceful? How can the USA who had been a friend of Israel now switch over to being buddies with one of the countries on Hamas's side and also swear to bring about the creation of a state already stating to be beligerant?

As Spock has said, This doesn't compute.

USA Arms Middle East For Profit

Nadene Goldfoot
Our adjoining neighbor, Egypt, has signed a peace treaty with Israel. Their last war was in 1967, when all surrounding countries attacked Israel, and Israel survived and won. Saudi Arabia did not sign.

That hasn't stopped the United States from arming the Saudis and providing them with better and better weaponry. In 1981 they sold them AWACS radar planes. They also bought advanced systems from Britain and France. Their reason they said was to defend themselves against the Soviet Union. Even Henry Kissenger mentioned that it was silly to think these would only be used against Russia and not Israel. I am shocked that anyone would buy such logic. Of course it was to use against Israel.

After 9/11, new sales have continued "to fight a war on terror." I note that the terrorists from 9/11 were Saudi Arabians! They bought F-15s, laser-guided "smart-bombs" and other advanced weapons, things that would be useful against Israel but not al-Qaida, a group they most likely contribute to. Our Bush administration okayed these sales. Of course, the Saudis were his friends. Not only Saudi Arabia were buyers, but also Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

Interestingly, even after buying billions of dollars worth of weapons, USA had to come to the Saudis rescue in 1991. Now they're saying they are important to use against Iran.

Ehud Barak has asked the USA went from Israel to Washington to discuss this situation. Michael Oren has said that the Obama Administration is going to act to correct this problem. In 1968 the USA sold Israel Phantom jets. Ten years later with Jimmy Carter, Israel's enemy neighbors were supplied with weapons. Advanced fighter planes were sold to Egypt and Saudi Arabia. More and more supplies have gone to Arab states. This is happening at a time when USA has had to borrow money from China to survive. We just promised Haiti a lot of money. I don't know where it all is coming from being our coffers are about empty. I suppose we'll just borrow more and more. Or, is the thinking that the sale will bring in a cash cow? Selling weapons has been making a lot of money.

It seems that either our USA doesn't care who it sells to or is aware of the repercussions in order to make a buck, or they're playing some sort of chess game, depending on who is in office.

Saudi Arabia is the country with the most oil, and therefore the most money. They also are probably the most religious, and object the most to Israel's presence, causing the other countries to join in the rebellion. They converted people to their religion with their swords. They're still trying to rule the world with weaponry.

I wouldn't be surprised if someday we find out that the Saudis have bought the ability to buy weaponry from individuals who are dollar hungry and sympathetic. It has happened in the past and probably is being played out today as well. It's sad when we have high ideals, but they're not followed by everyone. History has a habit of repeating.

Arabs Threaten Israel Over Temple Mount: East Jerusalem Riots

by Nadene Goldfoot
Angrier now that Abbas got nowhere with Obama with Israel building in Jerusalem and elsewhere, the Arabs are now threatening with rioting using al-Aqsa mosque as the excuse. This site is revered by both the Muslims and the Jews, and the Muslims regard Jews visiting there intolerable.

This site is the place also called the "Temple Mount" where the Temple in Jerusalem once stood. Israeli police evidently have had to keep Muslims out due to the volatile behavior of the populace. For the Muslims, it is their 3rd holiest site because Mohammed Muhammad was transported from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to al-Aqsa during the Night Journey. (Wikipedia).

There was no problem during the recent Muslim holiday of Ramadan and Muslims had access to the site. Now the Jewish holiday of Succot has started and the Muslims of Israel and surrounding countries are threatening with riots as since Sunday the Israeli police have had to curtail their visits there due to their threats backed up with their rioting.

I notice that many Arab websites have reported on this situation with threats, but Israel websites are few and far between. It could be the start of another infifada. Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said Tuesday he did not believe the recent wave of riots sweeping through the capital signaled the beginning of a third intifada.

What has happened is that some Jews have tried to enter there to pray. One of my relatives, Stanley Goldfoot, had been a member of the Temple Mount group and had been there when alive. He would be there now if he could. His group believes they have the same rights as the Muslims to pray there. Israel has tried to keep things cool and have come down harder on its own people just in order to keep things peaceful.

Notice who is protesting the Jewish attempted visits. Palestinian leaders have issued a series of warnings in the past week after clashes at Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem's Old City between Israeli police and protesters, over alleged attempts by Jewish religious activists to enter the site. According to the Jerusalem Post, rioting started with an Arab boy stabbing a man in the neck. Riots broke out in places after that. Visits to the mosque are restricted to Arab men over 50 today.

My comment is this: If Arabs cannot tolerate Jews praying at the same site they pray at, and this involves "G-d", how in the heck does Obama and other leaders think that they would make good neighbors of Israel? We cannot pray in the same local and this is a peaceful display of religious behavior. They hate us. They do not tolerate us. This is happening in a city that has been associated with Jews since King David, for heaven's sake. Jews have given them more than their fair share of religious rights, but it has not changed their attitudes or behaviors. In fact, they have the exquisite ability to turn the tables and blame the Jews for their rioting! What more do they want? Do I dare to pose the question? We all know what they want: all of Jerusalem, and why? Because it is Israel's city, that's why.

Does Obama Understand the Arab Mentality Towards Israel?

Nadene Goldfoot
Obama seems to not understand what he has caused the Arabs to surmise and now expect. Our administration is pushing for us to go along with Abbas of the Fatah party of Arabs and accept a Palestinian state next to Israel. This is coming with a lot of strings attached that they again left on their platform as before. They now think that because Obama has taken a new position of pushing Israel like the USA has never pushed before, that he will force Israel to give in to their expectations and needs and the Arabs won't have to do anything in return. In fact, he will favor the Arabs.

We have seventeen (17) Jewish people in the Obama Administration, I am surprised to find. David Axelrod, the Senior Advisor to the President is the most important. Rahm Emanuel is the Chief of Staff. We have Lee Feinstein in as Foreign Policy Advisor. Middle East Policy Advisor is Eric Lynn. I'd like to have a word or two with him! Perhaps this kettle of fish is due to him. He's not giving the advice I'd like to see given. Special Advisor for the Gulf and Southwest Asia to the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is Dennis Ross. Head of the Middle East desk at the National Security Council is Dan Shapiro. I'd like to know their positions and backgrounds in understanding Israel's position and history. What strengths do they bring to advise the President on the Middle East. Being Jewish is not enough. We have Jews of all opinions, many of which are based on nothing but peer pressure and position in society, not on actual facts.

Four decades ago plus a few years at Khartoum's conference, the Arabs rejected peace with Israel. Now in Bethlehem they again did the same thing. The only thing Fatah and Hamas can agree to is their hatred for Israel and their desire to see its destruction. Otherwise they are vying for the position of the top dog, which is now in the hands of Hamas.

They again voted to not recognize Israel as a Jewish state, not to negotiate with Israel at all, and not to end the fighting against Israel. In other words, they'd like to drive Israel into the sea as they pronounced some 61 years ago when they all attacked Israel in 1948 at it's rebirth.

Not only did they come with this declaration for all to see and read and hear, but they have a lot of demands. They want the Israelis to accept the "right of return" of their people, which would overwhelm Israel entirely with more Arabs than can be counted. They want the release of all Palestinian prisoners from Israel's jails. Most of them are in for murdering Israelis. Of course they want Israel to freeze all settlement construction and list the Gaza blockade. The end result is that they want Jerusalem in their hands and all Jews out of it along with any building that has taken place there.

Fatah is now talking about joining up with Iran in an alliance. This is the "peaceful" group that Obama is expecting to create a state of Palestine. Iran is also against any peace process and has voiced their threat of destroying Israel, which Israel takes very seriously. In fact, the Palestinian Chief Negotiator, Saeb Erekat met with Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in Egypt already. To make matters confusing, Iran has funded Hamas, their terrorist competitor. Iran seems to like their tactics better, I suppose.

In reality, does Israel have any Palestinian group to work with who truly has peaceful coexistence in mind? There is none. The Palestinian people have again lost any chance of living as others do. Even the king of Saudi Arabia and other leaders are not any help. Perhaps it's not in the cards for a Palestinian state to be next door to the only Jewish state in the world. There's always something that stops the process, and it's not Israel. Israel has been too compliant with trying to get along with the Arabs. Our seventeen Jewish Obama administrators had better hold a conference of their own and re-analyze their strategy in trying to force a peace that has now backfired. I wonder if they have a second plan.

Barak and Communities in Judea and Samaria

by Nadene Goldfoot
The USA has called for a freeze on any building planned for Israel, but Israel's government has its own decisions to make and decided to allow 50 new homes in Judea-Samaria to be built. There are plans for 1,450 houses, but nothing was said about those.

A few hours after this decision, Defense Minister Ehud Barak flew to the USA to talk to George Mitchell, something I'd hate to do. Israel's need is to relocate settlers from Migron to Adam, which lies north of Jerusalem. Adam is where the 1,450 homes are needed.

Obama is pressuring Israel to stop all building so that the "Palestinians" would join in peace talks needed to create a Palestinian state. Here we have Israel, already a state, experiencing a population growth with the need to build some homes for people who were removed from the neighborhood they had just recently built, deeming that other neighbood "illegal". They have to go somewhere.

I might add that most of Israel consists of apartment buildings. Individual homes are a rarity. I lived in a high apartment building in Safed, and was lucky enough to be invited to a couple of exceptional homes for a visit. One was dug out of some earthquake ruins and was beautiful. Another was more like an American home with a backyard belonging to a writer friend of ours. So the opportunity to actually have a home is very special.

There are 500,000 Israelis living in Judea and Samaria and East Jerusalem. There are over 1,000,000 Arabs living in the state of Israel. Arabs do not want any Israelis living in their so called future state. Obama looks like he's accepting this unfairness. Palestinians are insisting that Judea and Samaria Jewish neighborhoods are illegal. In my previous blog, I refute that. Obviously Israel also is refuting it by allowing building to take place. As I note, the Palestinians have not recognized Israel to this date, something a new neighbor should do to be neighborly.

Tensions are mounting now between the two different groups; Palestinians and Israelis. Palestinians are claiming that the Israelis raided the village of Asira al-Qiblya and fired guns at their windows, injuring two of them. In the news, the word "village" was used. Why is it that Palestinians are said to have villages and in many newspapers while the term "settlements" and "West Bank" is used instead of the name of villages or towns and Judea and Samaria. I believe these terms were chosen for their political usage. The Israelis said that the action began with a Palestinian arson attack on Yitzhar. While they were trying to put out the fire they were stoned by Palestinians and that an Israeli was hurt. Troops called in used rubber bullets, not real ones.

In Ramallah, Abbas said that he refuses to negotiate with Israel until they stop building. I say-I would refuse to negotiate with him until he accepts the reality of an Israel and deal with it! Abbas expects Israel to just accept their state being there and not put conditions on it as it is meaningless. I do not understand his logic at all. It's not computing other than the Arabs refuse to accept a Jewish state in their midst. And just how badly do they really need their own state? They don't plan on taking a first baby-step of accepting Israel's existence.

Being that Israel is a democracy, we have a group of Israelis called "Peace Now." They are protesting the construction activity planned for Adam. They're claiming that 2,500 homes are in the future plans and are even under construction already.

Obama and International Law Concerning Israel

by Nadene Goldfoot
Unlike past presidents, Obama is demanding tht Israel prevent its citizens from building onto their homes and communities in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria which is something we all do at one time or another to our own homes in the states. Sometimes there is a need for an additional rumpus room or bedroom when we can't afford to buy another home. We try to improve on what we have.

Obama goes along with Arab philosophy by calling "settlements" illigitimate. Joining him in this chorus are Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Middle East envoy of Obama, George Mitchell, who never liked Israel to begin with from what I've noted in the past.

Obama says that Israel "has obligations under the road map." Let's look at that map.

Israel has never taken a legal obligation to ban such building. Israel never signed an agreement that describes any Jewish community as "illegal." Ariel Sharon's chief of staff Dov Weisglass and Bush's deputy adviser Elliott Abrams both stated that Sharon's decision to curtail Jewish building in Judea and Samaria was based on explicit understandings with Bush's administration describing Jewish building that they would maintain for the duration of the peace process. There were agreements and the prime minister of Israel relied on them.." The road map was approved as a cabinet decision-not an international agreement. The Netanyahu government is under no legality to follow it. It can even abrogate Israel's accepting the document by calling for another vote. The road map lacks the seal of international law. It was not adopted as an internationally binding document under Chapter Vii of the UN charter. Israel has no international legal obligation to end Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria or Jerusalem.

Israel is on board for the 1976 International Convention for Civil and Political Rights, which prohibits all forms of discrimination against people on the basis of religion and nationality. The USA signed that one, too. According to that, Israel would be most discriminating if it followed the dictates of Obama, so by international law would not even be able to push such a law that is against the law. The road map is calling for a breach of international law!

What bothers me is that here we have a group of people who will not accept Israel's state of being and will not recognize Israel, and yet so many are on board to punish Israel and reward the bullies. What kind of world is this? Here we also have Iran, who has threatened Israel repeatedly with death and destruction, doing this to their own people and yet our administration has been reticent about saying anything to upset their regime. I note that they are not shy about demanding something from Israel that is completely wrong and unfair and only serves to reward the people who want to see the demise of Israel. All I can say on retrospect is that our Democrats certainly have changed course in mid-stream. I seem to remember a lot of promises pouring out of Clinton and Obama when pleading for votes. Of course, I never believed a word. Politicians. They're becoming more and more like snake-oil salesmen.

Palestinian Believes in Forcing Israel

AP via Yahoo! News Tue, 19 May 2009 11:40 AM PDT

"A key Palestinian official demanded Tuesday that President Barack Obama follow up his tough talk with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and force Israel to stop West Bank settlement construction and accept creation of a Palestinian state. "

That's the voice of a possible future neighbor of Israel. To force Israel to stop construction and to accept the creation of a state? How does he propose to force Israel? By war as they have done?

The idea of accepting Israel as an entity, something they have not done, doesn't even enter his mind, obviously. According to his logic, Palestinians don't have to do a thing to gain their ends. Just force Israel to do their bidding.

A Two-State Solution on Both Sides of the River Jordan

by Victor Sharpe
Very few people understand why Israel is now balking at a two-state solution and are against Obama's plan. This is an excellent explanation of why and what has been happening to the area. -Nadene Goldfoot

The phrase "Two State Solution" has been embraced by politicians and journalists alike, repeated endlessly, and touted as the panacea for a "just and equitable" solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

It has assumed the repetitious role of a muezzin's call to Islamic prayer. But it is based on erroneous geography and history; on a mixture of wishful thinking, naiveté and a brilliant Arab propaganda campaign of disinformation and falsehood. To understand why, it is necessary to learn a small but vital chapter of Middle Eastern history.

Shortly after the conclusion of the First World War and the total defeat of the Turkish Ottoman Empire, which had ruled most of the Middle East for 400 years, Britain was made trustee by the League of Nations for the whole of the geographical area known as Mandatory Palestine.

Incorporated within the Mandate was the 1917 Balfour Declaration, which specifically referred to the historical connections of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the moral validity of reconstituting within it a Jewish National Home.

The British Mandatory power, however, arbitrarily tore away 80% of the Palestine Mandate in 1922, giving it to the Hashemites, a Bedouin tribe with links to Mecca. Only the land west of the River Jordan remained from the original territory promised to the Jewish people as a National Home.

Jewish residency was immediately forbidden in all the lands east of the River Jordan, which in time became known as Trans-Jordan and then the Kingdom of Jordan.

The U.N. Partition Plan of 1947 created two states, Jewish and Arab, which were roughly equal in size. But these two states were to occupy only the remaining western geographic area of Mandatory Palestine - from the Mediterranean Sea to the River Jordan - barely 50 miles wide and a mere 20% of what now remained of Mandatory Palestine.

This plan was accepted by the Jewish leadership with deep reservations but as a pragmatic solution to the plight of the 850,000 Jewish refugees who were being driven from Arab lands at the time of Israel's rebirth.
The miniscule size of the state was also reluctantly accepted in order to facilitate the absorption of the surviving Jewish remnant still languishing in European refugee camps following the Holocaust.
The State of Israel, thus reconstituted in part of its ancient and biblical homeland in May, 1948, was immediately invaded by seven Arab armies in order to completely destroy it and drive the surviving Jews into the sea.
The Jordanian Arab Legion, led by British officers, occupied the eastern half of Jerusalem along with Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), driving the Jews out of their towns and villages. In the south, the Egyptians occupied the Gaza Strip, similarly driving the Jews from their homes.

The Jewish state astonished the world by surviving the Arab aggression. The Arab states, however, totally rejected the existence of a Jewish state in the Middle East and an uneasy armistice remained in force routinely broken by acts of Arab terror.

In June, 1967, the Egyptians, Jordanians and Syrians, launched a new aggression against Israel with the avowed intention of annihilating it. Israel defeated her Arab enemies in six amazing days and in so doing liberated the eastern half of Jerusalem, along with Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), from the Jordanians. At the same time, Gaza was freed from Egyptian occupation.

Despite subsequent and repeated offers by Israeli governments to give away territory in return for a true and lasting peace with the Arab belligerents, the Arab world continued to support terror and refused to accept a Jewish state within the Middle East.

Interestingly in April, 2009, the Holocaust denying leader of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, Israel's supposed peace partner, rejected any willingness to accept Israel as a Jewish state; a sure indication of the falsity of any Arab claim to live in full and lasting peace with Israel.

True, a peace exists today between Israel and Jordan and between Israel and Egypt but it is a frigid, cold and precarious peace with neither Jordan nor Egypt truly interested in full and mutually beneficial relations. Thus ends the history lesson.

The creation of a Palestinian Arab state within the mere 50 miles separating the Mediterranean and the Jordan River is a recipe for war and for the piecemeal destruction of the Jewish state. Such an Arab state will more than likely soon fall under the control of the Islamist Hamas movement, itself a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, which seeks a worldwide Islamic Caliphate. Gaza, and what it has become, is living proof.

The Iranian mullahs, perhaps soon armed with nuclear weapons, will have a command and control base within the territory given away to the Arabs. They will be ensconced in Gaza on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, determined upon launching ever more lethal terror against what is left of Israel and threatening Europe itself.

Israel will again be reduced to a nation a mere nine miles wide at its most populous region. When President Bush was still Governor of Texas he flew over Israel's tiny waist and remarked, "...why, in my state we have driveways longer than that."

That is the most likely outcome of the current proposed Two State Solution west of the Jordan River, which the Obama Administration is pushing with the flawed zeal of a misguided zealot. But to truly create a just and equitable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I propose a Two State Solution on both sides of the River Jordan.

To repeat: The present day Kingdom of Jordan occupies four-fifths of geographical Palestine. This territory consists of the land east of the River Jordan, extending north to Syria, east to Iraq and south to Saudi-Arabia.

Compared to Israel, it dwarfs the Jewish state yet it originated in an act of unprincipled perfidiousness by the British government of the day and remains an Arab state that has from its inception forbidden Jewish habitation within its borders,

This is even though it includes territory promised in Britain's 1917 Balfour Declaration and by the League of Nations as a Jewish National Home.

Jordan's population is currently made up of 75% Arabs who call themselves Palestinians with the remainder being Hashemite Bedouins. As it is exists on land originally forming four fifths of Mandatory Palestine, and as the population is three fourths Palestinian Arab, it follows that the "just and equitable" solution to the creation of a Palestinian Arab state should be within the present day Kingdom of Jordan and, therefore, east of the River Jordan.

The Arabs who call themselves Palestinians and who choose to remain in Judea and Samaria should be required to end all terrorism against Israel - hardly an onerous demand - and by finally living in peace could flourish within an Israel whose territory would now formally extend west from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. That would still only be a distance of barely 50 miles at its widest. The United States in comparison is some 3,000 miles wide.

Israel would now formally give up 80% of the originally mandated territory but would now possess all of her biblical and ancestral Jewish lands - with the exception of biblical Gilead east of the Jordan River, which is in present day north-western Jordan.

If there is a desire within the international community to truly arrive at a "just and equitable" solution, then this would be it. Of course, if this was a perfect world, it would satisfy historical, geographical, religious and ethnic considerations. But, alas, it is anything but a perfect world and the fanatical desire among so many Arab and Muslim nations to wipe out all vestiges of a Jewish state is, perhaps, insurmountable.
Nevertheless, it can do no harm to raise it in the corridors of power and promote and articulate it forcefully as a truly "just and equitable" solution.

When Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu arrives for his fateful meeting with President Barak Obama on May 18, 2009, it is unlikely that this solution will be raised. That is a shame because the accepted wisdom, now exercising the minds of Obama, the neo-libs who surround him, his problematic advisors, and the legions of people around the world who have succumbed to the churning mills of the Arab propaganda machine, is that there exists a people called Palestinians with a distinct history who lived in an independent Arab state called Palestine.

It is a lie, perhaps one of the greatest scams in history, swallowed in direct proportion to the amount of times it has been repeated. It is a fraudulent history of a fraudulent people in a fraudulent land.
Indeed, there has never in all of recorded history existed an independent, sovereign Arab nation called Palestine.

Here are the words of a local Arab leader, Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, speaking in 1937 before the Peel Commission, which was considering partition of the Palestine Mandate, west of the River Jordan:
"...There is no such country as Palestine! ...That is a term the Zionists invented! ...There is no Palestine in the Bible."

Professor Philip Hitti, the Arab-American history professor at Princeton, said in unambiguous words before the 1946 Anglo-American Committee:
"...There is no such thing as ‘Palestine' in history, absolutely not."
President Obama has made it crystal clear that he is not prepared to let such inconvenient truths deter him from his strange obsession in forcing through the creation of a terror supporting Palestinian Arab state during his term of office.

He intends to shower the Arab and Muslim world with favors. No favor could be more eagerly snatched at than that of the Israeli democracy abandoned by this American President to the tender mercies of the ever circling mullahs, imams, dictators and oligarchs. And as the President prepares to leave on his strange mission to Egypt to give a speech to the Muslim world he will also no doubt ignore the fact that from the Al Azhar University in Cairo spews forth a constant stream of Islamic hatred towards non-Muslims; those they call "infidels."

Doubly strange that President Barak Hussein Obama should choose Egypt whose government controlled media routinely drips anti-Jewish poisonFor Binyamin Netanyahu, May 18th, 2009 may therefore, to paraphrase Dickens, be the best of times and the worst of times. He may surprise us yet by being a leader not made of petroleum jelly, but one who finally stands up to President Obama and simply says, No.
After all, the stakes are harrowingly high - the very survival of modern Israel. But it is worth doing the right thing, or, as Mark Twain put it:
"... always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest."

Obama Puts Israel At Risk on "Borders of Auschwitz"

By Ariel Cohen Ariel Cohen – Wed May 13, 5:00 am ET from Christian Science Monitor
This is an excellent article. Ariel Cohen sees what our country is doing to Israel.

The May 18 meeting between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is critical for both nations. US-Israeli relations are in danger of deteriorating to the lowest point since Dwight Eisenhower ordered Israeli troops to evacuate Sinai in 1956 – an event that contributed to the 1967 Six-Day War. The summit may define relations between these two democracies for the duration of the Obama administration and beyond.

The White House seems to be intentionally slighting Israel in advance of the summit, even as it raises the stakes. Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, and National Security Adviser Gen. James Jones appear to have linked US willingness to stop Iran's nuclear program to receiving Israeli concessions regarding the two-state solution.

This is both immoral and counterproductive. Immoral, because it is dangerously close to blackmailing the Jewish state with a nuclear holocaust, planned by the Holocaust denier-in-chief, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Counterproductive, because potential Iranian nukes would threaten American interests and allies in the Middle East, including the oil-producing Gulf states.

The Obama administration is advocating steps that would jeopardize Israeli security. There is concern that it might approve an Arab-backed plan that could compel Israel to withdraw to indefensible 1967 cease-fire lines. The late, dovish Israeli foreign minister, Abba Eban, called these lines "the borders of Auschwitz."
The administration supports dividing Jerusalem to make a Palestinian capital. Such division was not a happy solution for Berlin decades ago. Jerusalem should not be cut in half by barbed wire fences.

It also wants Israel to join the ineffective Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The US had committed in a bilateral agreement not to tamper with the Israeli nuclear shield. At a time when Iran seems on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons, this is like demanding that a man in a rough neighborhood give up his shotgun when the criminal next door is getting a Kalashnikov.

All this occurs at a time when the terrorist organization Hamas is gaining strength. Polls predict that it would win Palestinian elections. If "Hamastan" arises in Gaza and the West Bank, it will probably become the next terror state, one keenly interested in destabilizing the US ally Jordan, as well.

The bigger picture is even more alarming. The administration is spending precious time and political capital trying for a quick fix to an intractable conflict. Obama and his top officials are meeting with the kings of Saudi Arabia and Jordan, the Egyptian president, the Europeans, and the Russians to effectively develop a plan that Israel had no part in formulating – and which would be imposed on it by extreme pressure.
This grand design is based on the "Arab peace plan" penned by the Saudis. It envisions settling millions of the 1948 Palestinian refugees and their descendants in Israel, a country the size of New Jersey.

This would irrevocably change the nature of Israel and create an ever greater terror threat. In pursuing this track, the Obama administration risks repeating the mistakes of its predecessors who also eagerly embraced instant solutions. Consider Camp David II in 2000, after which Yasser Arafat triggered the second intifada that killed more than 5,000 overall.

The administration seems to be making three grave errors. The first is disregarding reality. The entrenched hostility of the Arab world and radical Muslims toward Israel is there for all to see. The core issue is that the Arab elites have not accepted Israel's existence in the region. This fundamental point cannot be overlooked.
A second major mistake is arm-twisting a staunch democratic ally to curry favor among a deeply anti-American Arab and Islamic world. Doing so would send a message of weakness. America's allies from Japan to India to the Baltics will take note. A new wave of anti-American attacks – in Iraq, in the Gulf, and even on American soil – may be the unintended consequence.

The third mistake is to reward terrorism. A seven-year barrage of rockets from Gaza has not broken the will of the Israelis. Neither have the terror attacks, which killed nearly 1,200 Israelis since 2000 – mathematically proportional to 50,000 deaths in America. We should not allow the threat of terror to break the will of America to stand up to terror masters and financiers.

Israelis would be delighted to live in peace with their neighbors. But that can't happen until Hamas and Fatah abandon terror and cease teaching hatred to their children, brainwashing them about suicide bombing, and driving Jews into the sea. Palestinians have a long way to go to develop civil society, the rule of law, and economic prosperity before being ready to run a state. Israel will be in grave danger unless Washington stands with its ally in this fight for survival. The Middle East needs US leadership, but not the kind of leadership that imperils Israel while creating a Hamas-controlled terror state.

A Palestine? After These 6 Things come to Fruition

from Dr. Mitchell Bard
I was asked what I thought of Mitchell, the foreign Minister and Netanyahu's responses about not going for another state next to Israel called Palestine right now, and find I am in full agreement with Dr. Mitchell Bard's ideas below. I fell quite sure that Benjamin Netanyahu would be, too. I'm just surprised that our USA has never seen the light of this before. But then they were dealing with Olmert.

1) Make clear that violence will never lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state. No Israeli government will make concessions so long as its citizens are under attack. After ending the "occupation" of Gaza and being bombarded by more than 6,000 missiles Israel cannot be expected to consider territorial concessions unless Obama holds the Palestinians to their road map promise to stop terror and incitement against Israel.

2) State that the future borders of Israel and Palestine must take into account current demographic realities. President Clinton envisioned that the major settlement blocs, where tens of thousands of Israelis reside, would be incorporated into Israel. The Palestinian state could still be contiguous and incorporate 95-97 percent of the West Bank. The Palestinians could also receive additional territory elsewhere in exchange for the 3-5 percent of West Bank territory annexed to Israel.

3) Move the U.S. embassy to West Jerusalem. This is the capital of Israel and will remain so under any conceivable negotiated solution. This step does not preclude negotiations to establish the capital of the Palestinian state in part of Jerusalem, but it would erase Arab fantasies about the permanence of Israel's presence.

4) Insist that the Palestinian Authority reform textbooks. If Israelis and Palestinians are to coexist, the younger generation of Palestinians cannot continue to be taught that Israel does not exist, that Jews have no history in their homeland and that Islam requires them to fight infidels and become martyrs.

5) Support the settlement of Palestinian refugees in the Palestinian state. No Israeli leader will acknowledge a "right of return;" therefore, an international compensation fund should be created to facilitate the resettlement of refugees in the West Bank and Gaza upon the signing of a Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement.

6) Condition relations with Arab allies on their support for American peace efforts. President Obama should not continue to lavish aid and arms on states that vote against us more than 90 percent of the time at the UN and undermine our policies. These Arab states should be expected to end the boycott of Israel and take steps toward normalization. These policies may appear unbalanced but they will force Israel to make tough compromises as well. If violence ceases, Israel will have less justification for holding territory. Settlements outside the blocs recognized by the U.S. would probably have to be dismantled and the border of Israel and Palestine would approach the 1949 armistice line. Israel's capital would be recognized, but the predominantly Arab parts of Jerusalem would likely be ceded to the Palestinian state. Thousands of Palestinians would probably be admitted to Israel on a humanitarian basis.

Obama cannot allow fear of Arab disapproval to drive his policy. History has shown that our Arab allies need us much more than we need them. That is why, contrary to conventual State Department wisdom, relations with the Arab states have improved as the U.S.-Israel alliance solidified. The Palestinians will not agree to end the conflict with Israel if they believe terror can force Israel to capitulate, if they think the United States or others will force Israel to dismantle all the West Bank settlements and give up Jerusalem, or if they believe Israel can be forced to recognize a "right of return" for the Palestinian refugees. By taking the suggested steps, President Obama can stimulate both Palestinians and Israelis to negotiate from more realistic positions.

The Palestinians may still choose their historic path of never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity, but they will do so knowing that they are unlikely to find a more sympathetic American leader in the future.

Anti-Israel Direction in USA Government

Nadene Goldfoot
By appointing Charles Freeman as Chairman of our National Intelligence Council, our government is showing its negativity towards Israel.

Mr. Freeman has been since 1989-1992 the former US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and President of the Middle East Policy Council which was known as the American Arab Affairs Council. This was a lobbying group for the Arabs. One of their functions was to publish a quarterly journal called Middle East Policy which was filled with extreme anti-Israel messages. This very man, Charles Freeman, was responsible for this biased journal. Therefore, he just may share the sentiments it vomited out. He has been active in groups against Israel. In 2006 he was involved in Chicago with the group promoting John Mearsheimer and Walt in their writing against Israel.

Why President Obama invited him to take this position does not compute in my mind nor show me that he is qualified to be the editor of America's intelligence. Israel will not have a chance to be dealt with fairly.
P.S. Charles Freeman was NOT appointed as announced today under Yahoo's News Opinion section. 3/11/09. The writer was quite put out and blamed AIPAC and other Democrats favorable towards Israel.

Thank goodness for AIPAC and others. This would not have been fair at all. The writer is banking on Israel being completely wrong in hoping for such a Charles Freeman who would attack it nevertheless. We need fair open-minded people not against Israel at the start.

Jimmy Carter Trashed Israel Again

Nadene Goldfoot
In plugging his new book about the Middle East and Peace, ex president Jimmy Carter continually knocked Israel on the Today Show this morning. He started by calling the Gaza fight a debacle, then continued to say that Israel had never restored provisions to Hamas. He refused to recognize that Hamas is a terrorist group, and kept saying that they always kept their word with him. He said that you can trust Hamas. Then he blatedly said that Hamas never fired a shot until after 11/4/when Israel finally fought back. Such lies just made my stomach turn.

Carter continued saying that if they don't adopt his provisions, things will go bad. It seems that he still thinks he is calling all the shots and has done the most good for the area. He likes Mitchell, as he is tougher than anyone else in dealing with Israel and the Arab countries.

Interestingly, he mentioned Obama calling up all the surrounding Arab countries and forgot Abbas's name but when prompted, recognized the unnamed was a Fatah leader, but according to his memory, Israel was not called. At least he never mentioned it. That may be true.

So from what I understood of this interview, Hamas is a trustworthy group, not terrorists, who never fired a shot at Israel. It was only Israel who attacked and went into Gaza for no reason. Thank you Mr. Carter, for your anti-Israel views. It makes understanding your previous books so much easier. You're just against Israel no matter what.

Taking Chunks Out of Israel

The surrounding 22 Arab countries of Israel are 640 times larger than tiny Israel yet they expect Israel to turn over all the West Bank, Gaza Strip, the Golan Heights and half of Jerusalem... territory they lost after they started the 1967 war! We've given up the Gaza Strip and look what it got us; constant shelling of rockets forcing our citizens to live under deadly conditions. The Arabs certainly wanted a piece, all right, not peace. In fact, they want all of Israel, as little as it is. It says so in their charter.

Israel is only 8,367 square miles, or 21,671 sq. Km, including the West Bank right now. Obama will be in power in a few days, and he has made it known that he wants to see a "Palestine" created out of the West Bank immediately. Israel is shrinking.

After saying for 2,000 years that never are we Jews to forget Jerusalem, the plan is to take over much of that beloved city and make it part of Palestine. No one seems to care that it is a Jewish city, and was the capitol of Israel from King David's day on. It is not a holy city to Arabs.

Hamas has made it known that they do not go for a state of "Palestine" alongside Israel. They will never go along with Fatah in this matter. It will be interesting to see how Obama forces them to accept and stop fighting Israel. Hillary Clinton is said to intend pursuing Syria as a friend and will pressure Israel to surrender the Golan Heights to them. The very fact that the Israeli town of Kiriat Shimona, the town where my favorite department store is, is only 3 miles from the base of the Golan Heights. Controlling that would give the Arabs an ideal spot to bomb Israel. That's why we have been holding on to it; for protection! Obama will speak from Damascus, Syria to strengthen US ties to the Muslim world.

The only help Israel is going to get is from itself. Though Livni's cabinet has thought that the USA was such a terrific friend, facts are not showing it. The USA abstaining on voting on Resolution 1860 when it could have voted no shows a shift in backing Israel. Livni selecting a woman, Shalev, who is not a professional diplomat, was not a good move. Both Livni and Olmert have been kidding themselves about USA's support. Rice has been pushing the USA to accept Iran as a nuclear power by wrongly going along with thinking that Iran ended its nuclear weapons program in 2003. They're chomping on the bit to attack Israel, as shown by their dastardly remarks about Israel. If they attack, it no doubt will be with atomic weaponry. The USA put the Hizbullah terrorists of Lebanon above importance of Israel. The US actually forbade Israel from attacking the Lebanese government targets because Rice wonted to believe that the pro-Western March 14 movement was in charge of Lebanon when they were actually governed by Hizbullah. Therefore, Israel did not win any fight with Lebanon. Now Hizbullah is in charge of southern Lebanon and has rebuilt its arsenals. The result is that the USA has given Lebanon money and guns. Perhaps that is what the "Palestinians" think will be coming their way, too.
