Israeli Female Arab Soldiers Into Democracy

Nadene Goldfoot

Israel has Jewish females in the IDF.  They also have volunteer Arab male soldiers in the IDF .  This is their country too, and should want to fight for it.  This is a big topic in Israel as Yeshiva students have been excused from serving in the IDF for at least the past 10 years, but are  being expected to serve once again.

Arutz Sheva reports that MK Hanin Zoabi, a woman, has had strong opposition to having Arabs join the IDF, regardless of sex.  She feels that if a law requires Arab Israelis to enlist in the army is passed, Israel should prepare prisons for them.  She was also a member of the crew on the Mari Marmarva which was the main ship of the flotilla protesting against Israel.

Two Arab women who enlisted in the army this week are criticizing her stand on this.  They feel she does not represent them or other Arabs who want to serve in the army.  They themselves did face a little opposition in their village.  They feel it is good for them to join up.  I see one of the young women lives near Tzvat (Safed) where I lived for almost 5 years.  They are Israeli Christians who speak Arabic and feel their serving would be with pride and they should not feel ashamed for doing so.

Jarisi said that "any extremist in Israel who thinks of themselves first as Palestinian doesn't have to stay here.  He's a zero.  She thinks Zoabi should go to Gaza where such people  will be welcomed with open arms."  She feels that Zoabi doesn't have the right to speak in her name. Rajda Jarisi doesn't see herself as an Arab anymore.  She sees herself as an Israeli.

Zoabi has built up a bad reputation by being seen with senior Hamas terrorists in the past.  She has given anti-Israel speeches and talking about Israel's "occupation."

However, the Supreme Court has decided to allow Zoabi to run for election.  How democratic to a fault Israel is.  Especially noted is the fact that "Zoabi rejects the idea of Israel as a Jewish state, which she describes as "inherently racist." She has argued that this is the only way to combat Avigdor Lieberman's demand that Israeli citizens take loyalty oaths: "Balad's concept, which rejects the 'Jewish state' idea, is the only idea that can remove [Avigdor] Lieberman from the circle of political and moral legitimacy... When you agree with the 'Jewish state' idea, you necessarily agree with the idea of loyalty to this state. Rejecting the 'Jewish state' concept will block the road for anyone who demands our loyalty to such a state."Zoabi sees no difference between Lieberman and more mainstream Israeli politicians, saying that Lieberman, Tzipi Livni, and Benjamin Netanyahu are "all a bunch of fascists pure and simple."

Israel was created to a a Jewish state.  It is the only one in a world full of Muslim states or Christian states.  It was created as a Jewish state because of the religious bigotry of these other two and how they treated Jews for the past 2,000 years.  Even the whole world decided this was a right for the Jewish people finally, and voted for the Jewish Homeland through the League of Nations in 1917.  Too bad you don't go for this, Zoabi.  I  join my Israeli Christian sisters in recommending that you move onto Gaza if you don't like Israel and think so badly of  the state that is giving you a refuge from refugee camps that others would rather live in.  Good for Naradin Tuma and Rajda Jarisi.  They are our citizens.  I think the Supreme Court should have requirements for MK's to be loyal people.  They're really going overboard on this fairness issue.

What Palestinians Died in Gaza?

Nadene Goldfoot
April 16, 2001, the first rocket was fired from Gaza into Israel.

On November 14, after 12 years of having been shelled by Gazan terrorists, Israel warned, begged help from the UN,  and were ignored by the world.  They were forced to retaliate with Operation Pillar of Defense, and as a result killed 178 Palestinians.

Only 169 of the casualties were ever identified.  It was found out that 101 were terrorists, with 71 of these affiliated with Hamas.  17 were affiliated with Islamic Jihad, 6 were members of the Popular Resistance committees, 3 were Fatah terrorists, 2 belonged to the Army of Islam, 1 was a PFLP terrorist and 1 was a Salafist terrorist, which are the most extreme Muslim faction.

68 people were  civilians.  This amounts to  the fact that 60% were  terrorists   What these terrorists do is place their launching pads for their rockets, mortars and missiles among civilian population in order to have further ammunition against Israel by saying, "See, they hit our civilians."  Civilized countries do not put their civilians in harm's way, regardless.

Even in this the terrorists are still terrorizing Israel by misconscrewing the numbers.  The terrorist groups published a smaller number of actual terrorists and made the civilian number larger just to defame Israel.  Then they had the chutzpa to add the names of those who died in other circumstances to the death list in order to vilify Israel.

Since 2001, the terrorists have fired 12,800 rockets and mortars into Israel.  44 Israeli civilians were killed since 2006 and 1,687 were injured.  In 2006, 9 were killed and 371 injured; in 2007, 10 were killed and 578 injured; in 2008, 15 were killed and 611 injured.   By December 27, 2008, Israel had enough and followed up with Operation Cast Lead.  63% to 75% of the Palestinian casualties were men of combat age.  Total casualties amounted to 1,400 in the 22 days that Israel had to go into Gaza.  . 308 of them were under age 18.   5,000 were wounded.  The terrorists managed to kill 10 IDF and 3 Israeli civilians.

The Palestinian terrorists were unperturbed.   In 2009, 2 were killed and 11 injured; in 2010, 5 were killed and 35 injured; in 2011, 3 were killed and 81 injured.  Then in 2012, 1,822 rockets, mortars and missiles were fired into Israel.

March 9-14, 2012, Israel held Operation Returning Echo where they pinpointed Zohair al-Qaisi, the Secretary General of the Popular Resistance Committees. Along with him, another terrorist companion was killed as well as a nearby civilian.   This led to the Palestinian retaliation with the terrorists shooting 300 plus Grad missiles, Qassam rockets and mortar shells into Israel.  177 of them hit Ashdod, Ashkelon and Beersheba.  23 civilians were injured.  Israel shot down 56 rockets out of 71 attempts.

Israel takes all the steps possible to protect their citizens while the Palestinians put them in harm's way on purpose.  This is why there is a difference in fatalities.  Israel may have suffered less deaths, but have been under attack since 2001 with indiscriminate shelling coming into civilian populations without anyone stepping up to stop it such as the UN.  It happens to be against international law.  This has been war.

I note that the Palestinians have been accepted into the UN under a nonmember observer state while the Palestinians  refuse to recognize Israel as a state.  Is this their reward for shelling Israel and not making peace for the past 12 years?

In Bethlehem, which is in Judah (West Bank and under Fatah rule), thousands of Christian tourists are celebrating the birth of Jesus, and the Muslims are celebrating the UN's recent recognition of an "independent Palestinian state."  Considering how the Christians are being treated in Egypt under their new Muslim Brotherhood politics, it won't be long before things change for the few Christians in Bethlehem.  I don't know why the top Roman Catholic cleric in the Holy Land, Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal, the Palestinian Archbishop who was born in Jordan, mentioned that the road to actual freedom was still long, but....the birth of the state of Palestine.  I have a feeling he is expecting more attacks on Israel, especially for Jerusalem, as it is a telling statement.  For a religious man, he is not hiding his political feelings.

West Bank Arabs Rioting Against Israelis
Nadene Goldfoot
The Middle East is in an uproar with countries trying to overpower their Kings and despots.  It's been affecting the Arabs of the West Bank as well.  May saw a lot of rioting going on.  Israel's remembrance of it's birthday saw a lot of Arabs rioting, as well as on Jerusalem Day in June.  Their disappointment in our success was displayed in their Nakba Day, and was again celebrated with rioting.

Riots started on the Friday the 10th this month.  It happened at the Western Wall near the Moroccan Gate after the Muslim prayers and continued with around 200 people in a village with people armed with bats and iron chains who also burned a Jewish hut, tent and holy books in the prayer corner.

There have been quite a few flare-ups of rioting and stone throwing, and worse over the past three days in the West Bank against Israelis.  Each riot involves about 50 Arabs attacking border policem or IDF.  Bilin has seen 50 rioters, Dir Nizam 50, Umm Salamana 50, SE of Ramallah 40, and Qalandiya 100.  The border policeman there was lightly injured.  The rioters were throwing flares at the soldiers and firebombs, molotov cocktails and many many rocks.

There are two villages northwest of Ramallah in the Judea/Samaria area.  One is the Jewish village of Nili.  A few men were using bulldozers on their land.  About 50  Arabs from Deir Qaddis didn't like that at all.  They were thinking that the Jews were coming too close to their property, so they went out and stoned the soldiers that were protecting the Nilins.  They didn't just throw little stones, they were heaving huge ones in what turned out to be a big riot.

One soldier was attacked in this violence so badly that the stones shattered his leg.  Then the crowd all advanced towards him even closer while still throwing stones.  He opened fire into the air, then as they quickly came closer, shot at them with him live rounds.  Another soldier was also wounded in the spree.  The soldiers then used rubber bullets and tear gas on the attackers.  Several Arabs were injured.

Four more villages saw riots, another involving 100 rioters, one with 50 and two more with 30 people each involved.

Everyone is pressing Israel to sit down to talk peace with the Palestinians, but they haven't even decided who is going to head up their people, Fatah or Hamas.  That's still undecided.  Besides, that, their people are rumbling against Israel, showing that they haven't got peace in mind at all.  Besides the people heating up, so is the temperature.  It was Abbas of Fatah who refused to sit down and talk.  Now it's Abbas who is going to have to show the world and Israel that he is ready to make peace after all, and the big step they must take is to finally accept a Jewish Israel in the midst of their Muslim territory.

Hezbollah Hit Man and Gang After Israelis Abroad
Nadene Goldfoot

Talul Harnia, head of a Hezbollah cell intends to kill Israelis he finds abroad in retaliation for the assassination of Imad Mughniyeh.

Mughniyeh was one of the world's most wanted men.  He had been on the FBI list with a $25 million dollar bounty on his head which is the same as on Osama bin Laden.  He had attacked the USA, Israeli and Jewish targets in Lebanon and abroad.  He was finally found in Damascus, Syria and was killed by a car bomb way back in February of 2008.  Of course Hezbollah is saying that he was killed by Israeli agents.

So now this is the excuse given by a Hezbollah terrorist group to hunt down and kill civilian Israelis.  Many Israelis have taken the Passover holiday as a time for travel, just as many Americans have gone to Israel at this time.
Hezbollah is out for Israeli blood.  Always be prepared, as the Boy Scout Motto says, for danger lies even outside of Eretz Yisrael.

Conundrum of Palestine-Needing Solomon to Reply
Nadene Goldfoot
Obama is meeting with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah and they're planning on creating Palestine.
"President Barack Obama says he and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia agreed Tuesday on the need to press for Middle East peace in a "significant and bold way," including the creation of a Palestinian homeland". This is from yahoo news. Oh, I'm sure that Abdullah is so unbiased!

Jerusalem doesn't see it happening. Her Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman sees no Palestinian state being created by 2012. He also stated that we can dream, express interest, but in reality we are still far from reaching understandings and agreements on establishing an independent state by then. He was talking to a member of the quartet, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Later Lavrov flew to Cairo to talk with President Hosni Mubarak and their Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

Palestinians and Israelis started talking again in May after not speaking after 17 months. Abbas expects Israel to offer more than they have to make it worthwhile to move to direct talks.

Lieberman of Israel and Lavrov of Russia have very different ositions about Hamas, the ruling terrorist group in Gaza. Russia has contacts with them while the rest of the world see them as terrorists and boycott them.
I ask Solomon, "How can you have an agreement with people who have sworn in their charter to end your life and who have no intention of being peaceful? How can the USA who had been a friend of Israel now switch over to being buddies with one of the countries on Hamas's side and also swear to bring about the creation of a state already stating to be beligerant?

As Spock has said, This doesn't compute.

Understanding the Israeli Psyche

by Nadene Goldfoot from Dr. Michael Oren's article, Deep Denial
Even before Israel was born in 1948, its citizens have had to become soldiers. The attacks have not actually stopped. Every man has had to serve one month out of each year in the military doing their milueem duty. Women also serve in this army. In fact, very often they are sergeants training young soldiers. Children are trained as soon as they can walk not to pick up objects on the streets as they might be bombs. Children sit outside school doors checking bags looking for bombs. The whole population is totally aware of the dangers that can befall them.

Michael Oren, the new ambassador from Israel to the USA, points out in his article "Deep Denial" in The New Republic, that Israelis are not prone to flattery. The Hebrew word for flattery is "chanupa". The Yiddish word is "firgun", which is more derisive. A joke told in Israel is that the word is on the exit from the Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv with a red diagonal line slashing through it along with the warning, "You are now entering a Firgun Free Zone."

Recently Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to the U.N. General Assembly and several Israeli commentators reacted unflatteringly to it. Everyone else applauded, but the Haaretz reporter Tom Segev thought his words were "unneccessary and embarrassing. Gideon Levy thought his words were insulting to the intelligence and demagogic. Aluf Benn, a respected Israeli journalist faulted the speech as failing to address a global rather than Israeli audience.

What he spoke about were some pretty important issues; Iran's nuclear abilities, the Goldstone Report travesty, and their hopes for peace with Palestinians based on security and mutual recognition. The reporters were upset not by those topics but about the Holocaust, his opening. Yet I think the opening explains a lot about the Israeli psyche.

He said that 1/3 of all Jews died in the Holocaust. Almost all Jewish families were affected by this, including his. He said that Ahmadinejad, the biggest Holocaust denier, spoke to this audience the day before about there not being a Holocaust. "Have you no shame, have you no decency?" he asked the audience.
The journalists thought by bringing up the Holocaust that Netanyahu had stooped to Ahmadinejad's level, or gave credibility to him by debating him over a "universally accepted truth." It's been 64 years since the WWII ended and now the validity of it all is in the UN General Assembly, Benn wrote. He felt that with that Ahmadinejad succeeded in instilling doubt.

Israelis are raised with Holocaust history. They are not aware of the world's youth's lack of education about how there was a Final Solution in store for the Jews. Our young American Jews may even be guilty of denial of these facts. This is a difference in our psyche.

Muslims can now think that if Israel was created by Europeans out of Holocaust guilt and it never actually occurred, then their existence is unjust. That's giving them fuel to fight against Israel.

Netanyahu's preamble speaking of the murdering 6 million Jews is important to understand the dangers posed to our 6 million Jews in Israel today by a nuclear Iran and by the Goldstone Report. Speaking about the Holocaust and knowing that it did indeed happen is vital in obtaining peace.

A minority of our American Jews have joined the band wagon in denying the seriousness of our position by joining leftist groups such as J street, where Muslims also have joined. They've developed a very American mentality that may be suitable here in the states, but is not even beginning to grasp the differences in the situation in Israel. This doesn't mean that it's okay to treat Palestinians in a different way from the way we treat members of our own family, but they just don't grasp how close we are to being obliterated. Where an Israeli must be constantly aware of danger and serving, the American only does it rarely if not at all. They might even be thinking the whole affair is an embarrassment for them.

Now Dr. Michael Oren has been asked by J Street to speak at their convention. The last I've heard is that he is declining. If he does change his mind, surely he will give them a "what for" and he may just decide not to give them more fodder for their fight.

More Facts About Israel to be Aware Of

Nadene Goldfoot
By 1972 almost a million Arabs lived in the administered areas (not called occupied areas). 640,600 of there lived in Judaea and Samaria. This consisted of 5,900 sq km or 2,270 sq mi. 388,600 lived in the Gaza Strip consisting of 360 sq km or 140 sq mi. and North Sinai.
8,000 Arabs lived on the Golan Heights consisting of 1,250 sq km or 500 sq mi. There are the Druzes living here.
Most of this population are Moslems. The smaller Christian communities of Greek Orthodox and Latins are mainly in Ramallah, Bethlehem and Beit Jala.
Israel waited for a peace settlement which didn't come. Their objectives have been:
1. To maintain conditions of security for Israelis and Arabs alike.
2. To enable inhabitants to live normal lives without losing contact with Arabs in other countries.
3. To make possible rapid economic development.
4. To encourage co-existence and cooperation between the Arabs of the areas and Israelis, as an example for relations to come between the two peoples.
1. By 1972 things were tranquil and thriving. Local affairs were administered by the local population.
2. Open bridges on the Jordan allowed movement in either direction between the areas and the Arab States.
3. Arabs and Israelis up to 1967 had lived in mutual separation and estrangement but after 1967 were enjoying the beginnings of a peaceful and fruitful co-existence.
4. The hope was that this would make a contribution towards a transformation of Arab-Israel-relations from conflict into cooperation.
What Happened?
I daresay that other Arabs poked their goals into the territories and grabbed some political power over these people. Arafat died and Hamas took over Fatah. The whole leadership changed from bad to worse.
Israeli politics also changed. It was as if American Democrats gained power. The Left gained power and did not protect Southern Israel which was shelled for 8 years. Now the Right is back in. We await with baited breath to see how Netanyahu handles things, but I have a feeling he'll be great. Security is a big thing with him. Most Israelis voted for him for this very reason.
Unlike Muslim Nations
Arabs and Druzes take part in Israeli political life. They are in the government's legislature.
In the 7th Knesset there were 6 Arabs (one was Deputy Speaker and one was a Deputy Minister) and one Druze who was a Deputy Minister. That was by 1972. It's not a new thing. Remember, Israel only was born in 1948. It was only 24 years old. In just about every Arab nation, Jews are not allowed, even as tourists. Egypt allowed Jews by 1980 that I know of. Sadat had made a change in his attitudes. I believe it would be impossible for me to tour Saudi Arabia.
Advantages for Arabs in Israel
Israel has treated the Arabs well, though they probably wouldn't dare admit it. They have the advantages of Israel's modern medical services. They are served by 6 health centers. 79 village clinics and 75 mother and child station, besides facilities in the cities. Their death rate dropped from 20 per thousand in 1948 to 6.2 in 1971, among the lowest in the world. During this time, infantile death rates fell from 68 to 38 per thousand live births. By 1972 93% of births are in hospitals.
Now Arabs want to overwhelm Israel with their numbers demanding a return of millions and millions of Arabs who left in 1948 of their own choosing.
